MikroTik CRS354-48P-4S+2Q+RM 48-Port PoE Switch
Description
A 48-port PoE switch with 10G and 40G uplinks
The CRS354-48P-4S+2Q+RM is a 1U rack-mount switch with 48 gigabit RJ45 ports that can all supply power, four 10G SFP+ cages and two 40G QSFP+ cages. MikroTik describes it as a single switch able to power the devices on a large setup while keeping 10G and 40G uplinks available. An additional 10/100 Ethernet port sits on the front panel.
Every copper port offers passive PoE at 26 or 53 V as well as auto-sensing IEEE 802.3af/at. A built-in 750 W power supply feeds the PoE budget, and the chassis measures 443 x 382 x 44 mm. A QCA9531 650 MHz CPU with 128 MB RAM handles management and RouterOS v7 or SwOS features; the heavy switching is done in the switch chip.

Switching and routing results from the MikroTik page (QCA9531 all port test); tested to RFC2544 on Xena hardware:
| Test | Rules | Mbps at 1518 B | Mbps at 512 B | Mbps at 64 B |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bridging | none (fast path) | 454.2 | 339.1 | 83.2 |
| Routing | none (fast path) | 451.8 | 300.2 | 74.2 |
| Routing | 25 ip filter rules | 410.5 | 169.6 | 21.4 |
Reading the numbers: the 168 Gbps and 336 Gbps figures describe hardware switching between ports in the switch chip. The table above is different: it shows what the small QCA9531 CPU handles when traffic is routed or filtered by software, about 410 to 454 Mbps at 1518 bytes. In practice keep traffic switched in hardware, use VLANs for separation and avoid sending bulk traffic through the CPU. The PoE figures also need care: 27 A at 26 V is roughly 700 W and 13.2 A at 53 V roughly 700 W (derived), so the 750 W supply is the practical limit for the whole chassis.
PoE-out, switching capacity and uplinks
- 48 x 10/100/1000 Ethernet ports with PoE-out on Ether1 to Ether48, plus 4 x SFP+ and 2 x QSFP+ cages.
- Datasheet switching figures: 168 Gbps non-blocking Layer 1 throughput, 336 Gbps switching capacity and a 235 Mpps forwarding rate.
- PoE-out per port: up to 26 W at low voltage (26 V) and up to 30 W at high voltage (53 V); total output current 27 A at 26 V or 13.2 A at 53 V.
- Four fans, current, voltage, CPU and PCB temperature monitoring, RJ45 serial console.
- Dual operating system: RouterOS v7 or SwOS, selectable.
Ordering notes and package contents
Order code CRS354-48P-4S+2Q+RM: 48P = 48 ports with PoE, 4S+ = four SFP+, 2Q+ = two QSFP+, RM = rack mount. The package contains one IEC cord, a K-68 screw kit, rackmount ears, rear support ears and cable-management brackets. QSFP+ and SFP+ modules, or DAC cables, are not included. Check the real PoE load of cameras or access points against the stated 800 W maximum consumption before choosing this model over a smaller PoE switch.
Installation and power planning
Mount the unit in a standard rack using the ears and rear support. The first-connection routine from MikroTik is the same across the range: connect a PC, use 192.168.88.1 with WinBox or WebFig and the admin user without a password, then set a password. The datasheet lists an operating range of -20 to 60 degrees C and IP20 protection, so plan front-to-back airflow in the cabinet and keep PoE cabling within the rated limits of the connected devices.
Use in camera, Wi-Fi and building networks
The port count and 53 V passive PoE option suit IP camera systems, Wi-Fi access point clusters, hotels and labour accommodation blocks where one rack serves a whole floor. The 40G uplinks allow a direct link to an aggregation switch such as the CRS326-24S+2Q+RM type. Use a conditioned room: the ratings are for indoor equipment racks, not outdoor cabinets.
Information to send with an RFQ for the MikroTik CRS354-48P-4S+2Q+RM 48-Port PoE Switch
Switch selection depends on how many devices connect, how they are powered and how the switch links back to the core. For the MikroTik CRS354-48P-4S+2Q+RM 48-Port PoE Switch, list the number of copper and fibre ports you need, the PoE devices it will feed (cameras, access points, phones) and their individual power class, so the total PoE budget can be checked against the switch’s limit.
- Uplink speed and media: 1G, 2.5G or 10G, copper or SFP/SFP+, and the optic modules required.
- Management needs: VLANs, link aggregation, IGMP snooping, or central management from a controller.
- Rack space, airflow direction and power redundancy in the cabinet.
- Ambient temperature in the room or field cabinet, which matters in GCC summers.
A simple port map of the site is enough for the configuration to be checked before the order is confirmed.
