MikroTik CRS328-24P-4S+RM 24-Port PoE Switch

Description

A 28-port PoE switch with a built-in 500 W supply

The CRS328-24P-4S+RM is a 28-port independent switch in a 1U rack-mount case: 24 gigabit Ethernet ports with PoE-out and four SFP+ ports for 10 Gbps optical or Ethernet modules (not included). MikroTik states that each copper port offers passive PoE, low-voltage PoE and auto-sensing IEEE 802.3af/at Type 1 and Type 2.

A built-in 100-240 V AC, 500 W power supply feeds the unit. The switch itself uses up to 44 W, leaving a guaranteed 450 W, split as 3 x 150 W for every eight Ethernet ports. A single port can output up to 30 W at high voltage and 26 W at low voltage.

Results published on the product page (98DX3236 all port test); RFC2544, Xena equipment, 0.1% packet loss tolerance:

Test Rules Mbps at 1518 B Mbps at 512 B Mbps at 64 B
Bridging none (fast path) 1266.6 1120.3 229.9
Routing none (fast path) 1266.6 1121.9 175.9
Routing 25 ip filter rules 786.9 269.9 33.7

Reading the numbers: the 64 Gbps non-blocking throughput equals 24 gigabit ports plus 4 SFP+ ports at 10G (derived: 24 + 40 = 64 Gbps), so every port can run at line rate in hardware. The CPU table is a separate measurement: 1266.6 Mbps in the fast path at 1518 bytes, 786.9 Mbps with 25 IP filter rules, and 33.7 Mbps for 64-byte packets with the same rules. Use hardware VLAN switching for bulk traffic. For PoE, 450 W is guaranteed in three blocks of 150 W per eight ports, so one block can supply, for example, eight 15 W devices with room to spare.

Switching features and PoE budget

  • Non-blocking throughput 64 Gbps, switching capacity 128 Gbps, forwarding rate 95.2 Mpps (datasheet).
  • Dual boot: choose RouterOS for routing and Layer 3 features or SwOS for a simplified switch-only system.
  • Layer 2 features listed: 802.1Q VLAN with up to 4K VLANs, port isolation, port security, storm control, mirroring, STP/RSTP/MSTP, ACL, SNMP, IGMP snooping, 802.3ad and static link aggregation.
  • 16K host table and 10218-byte jumbo frames.
  • Temperature-based fan control with current, voltage, CPU and PCB temperature monitors; RJ45 serial console.

Order code and package notes

Order code CRS328-24P-4S+RM: 24P = 24 PoE ports, 4S+ = four SFP+, RM = rack mount. Budget the PoE load per group of eight ports rather than for the whole unit, because the 450 W guaranteed output is divided into three 150 W blocks. SFP+ modules and any Ethernet SFP+ adapters are not included.

Rack installation and operating system choice

Install in a 1U rack with front and rear ventilation; the datasheet lists 443 x 300 x 44 mm, a -20 to 60 degrees C tested range and IP00 on the product page, so the housing is not sealed and belongs in a protected room. Pick RouterOS or SwOS from RouterOS, SwOS or the RouterBOOT loader settings. Default access is 192.168.88.1 with the admin user.

Typical PoE deployments

The unit fits CCTV floors, Wi-Fi access point blocks, VoIP phones and IP intercom systems in offices, hotels and labour camps, with SFP+ uplinks to the building core. Setting PoE to 26 V low voltage matters for MikroTik and other passive-PoE devices; confirm each device input range before enabling 53 V output.

Information to send with an RFQ for the MikroTik CRS328-24P-4S+RM 24-Port PoE Switch

Switch selection depends on how many devices connect, how they are powered and how the switch links back to the core. For the MikroTik CRS328-24P-4S+RM 24-Port PoE Switch, list the number of copper and fibre ports you need, the PoE devices it will feed (cameras, access points, phones) and their individual power class, so the total PoE budget can be checked against the switch’s limit.

  • Uplink speed and media: 1G, 2.5G or 10G, copper or SFP/SFP+, and the optic modules required.
  • Management needs: VLANs, link aggregation, IGMP snooping, or central management from a controller.
  • Rack space, airflow direction and power redundancy in the cabinet.
  • Ambient temperature in the room or field cabinet, which matters in GCC summers.

A simple port map of the site is enough for the configuration to be checked before the order is confirmed.

About brand

MikroTik is a Latvian maker of networking hardware and software, founded on 14 March 1996 in Riga by John Tully and Arnis Riekstiņš to develop routers and wireless ISP systems. In 1997 it created the RouterOS operating system for standard PC hardware, and in 2002 it began making its own hardware under the RouterBOARD brand. MikroTik is still privately owned by its two founders.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list MikroTik devices, each with the manufacturer datasheet, for ISPs, IT contractors and site networks in Oman and the GCC.
