CMP PXSS2K Double Seal Barrier Cable Gland for Unarmoured Cable
Description
A double-seal barrier gland for unarmoured cable
The CMP PXSS2K is a double seal, globally approved explosive atmosphere barrier cable gland for unarmoured and braided cables. The inner compound barrier seals around the cores after the inner sheath or bedding is removed, a displacement type environmental seal grips the outer sheath, and the datasheet describes superior cable retention and deluge protection. The gland can be installed directly in the equipment or remotely.
It is the CMP barrier choice for cables without armour that enter Ex d flameproof enclosures, Ex e terminal boxes and Ex n equipment, and for installations in hose-down or wet locations. The datasheet lists IP66, IP67 and IP68 (IP68 tested to 30 m for 12 hours), NEMA Type 4X and an operating range of -60 to +85 C.

Ordering reference and when to choose it
Order by size code and type, for example 20PXSS2K1RA5 for nickel plated brass M20 or 25PXSS2K1RA432 for a 316 stainless steel 3/4 in NPT gland. Material suffixes added to the ordering reference: brass (no suffix), nickel plated brass 5, 316 stainless steel 4, copper-free aluminium 1; NPT options add digits to the material suffix (for example 1/2 in = 31, 3/4 in = 32, 1 in = 33). The size is selected from the overall cable diameter, with the number of cores and the diameter over conductors checked against the table.
Choose the PXSS2K when the cable has no armour but the installation needs a flameproof barrier. For armoured cable CMP lists the PX2K, PX2KW and PX2KX families, and for non-barrier Ex e use there are further CMP glands. The stainless steel option is common offshore and in coastal plants where corrosion resistance matters, and the datasheet lists the marine approvals (LRS, DNV, ABS, BV).
Installation and compliance notes
Barrier glands require the epoxy compound to be installed according to the manufacturer’s instructions, which also lets the gland be installed remotely from the equipment. The datasheet states that the mechanical and electrical classifications are applied as per IEC 62444 and EN 62444, and that IP and NEMA ratings apply when CMP installation accessories are used. Aluminium alloys are not permitted in Group I mining applications. Confirm the gland marking against the equipment certificate and the area classification.

About brand
CMP Products makes cable glands and cable cleats, and little else. Founded in 1957 and based in Cramlington, United Kingdom, the company is a name that appears on hazardous-area cable schedules for oil, gas and power projects. Seven Star LLC sources and supplies CMP cable glands for explosive atmospheres to contractors in Oman, including the E1FW and the Triton T3CDS, among other glands and cable cleats listed on this page.
CMP cable glands listed here
The T3CDS Triton is a gland for armored cables with a compensating displacement seal, a design that sets the inner seal correctly across the cable diameter range, and an integral deluge seal. CMP lists it as Ex db, Ex eb, Ex nR and Ex ta, with IP66, IP67 and IP68 ratings. The E1FW is the explosive atmosphere gland for steel wire armored (SWA) and aluminum wire armored (AWA) cable.
Ordering CMP glands: what we need
A gland is sized to the cable, so send the cable type and three dimensions: inner bedding diameter, outer sheath diameter and armor wire size. Add the entry thread and size (metric or NPT), the gland material (brass, nickel-plated brass or stainless steel) and accessories such as locknut, earth tag, sealing washer and shroud. GCC project specifications usually name the certificate required.
