Brand:

CMP E2FW Explosive Atmosphere Cable Gland for Lead Sheathed Armoured Cable

Description

A gland that earths the lead sheath of armoured cable

The CMP E2FW is a globally approved explosive atmosphere cable gland for lead sheathed steel and aluminium wire armoured cables. It effectively earths the lead sheath, clamps the armour metal-to-metal with a detachable armour cone and the AnyWay universal clamping ring, and seals with an inner displacement seal on the lead covering plus a controlled outer load retention seal. The datasheet adds that it is designed to reduce the effects of cold flow and has an OSTG feature that prevents over-tightening.

Lead sheathed armoured cables are specified where chemical or hydrocarbon attack on a plastic sheath is a concern. The temperature range is -60 to +130 C, IP66 is standard (IP67 and IP68 on request) and the marked codes cover Ex db, Ex eb, Ex nR and Ex ta.

Selection and ordering

Both the lead sheath diameter and the overall cable diameter must fall inside the ranges of the chosen size, and the armour thickness must match the clamping range. Ordering follows the same pattern as other CMP glands, for example 20E2FW1RA5 for nickel plated brass M20. Material suffixes are brass (none), nickel plated brass 5 and copper-free aluminium 1; NPT options add the digits listed in the datasheet. Stainless steel is not listed for this gland on the datasheet.

Because the lead is part of the earth path, the gland earths the sheath effectively; the cable installer should still follow the site earthing and bonding procedure. Where the cable has no lead sheath, other CMP types such as the E1FW or the barrier PX2K family are more appropriate.

Installation and approvals

The gland is typically fitted directly or remotely with the standard CMP shroud (the datasheet gives PVC04 to LSF35 by size). The classification block lists ATEX, IECEx and UKEX certificates and the marine approvals LRS, DNV, ABS and BV. Check the printed certificate numbers against your project requirements, particularly if mining (Group I) or North American markings are needed.

About brand

CMP Products is a British manufacturer of cable glands, cable cleats and accessories for industrial and hazardous areas. The CMP brand was created in 1957, when British Engines Limited began making cable terminating glands. British Engines was founded in 1922 in Newcastle upon Tyne by the brothers Harold and Charles Lamb and is still owned by the Lamb family.

Seven Star LLC sources and supplies CMP cable glands for explosive atmospheres to contractors in Oman, including the E1FW and the Triton T3CDS, among other glands and cable cleats listed on this page.

The T3CDS Triton is a gland for armored cables with a compensating displacement seal, a design that sets the inner seal correctly across the cable diameter range, and an integral deluge seal. CMP lists it as Ex db, Ex eb, Ex nR and Ex ta, with IP66, IP67 and IP68 ratings. The E1FW is the explosive atmosphere gland for steel wire armored (SWA) and aluminum wire armored (AWA) cable.

Ordering CMP glands: what we need

A gland is sized to the cable, so send the cable type and three dimensions: inner bedding diameter, outer sheath diameter and armor wire size. Add the entry thread and size (metric or NPT), the gland material (brass, nickel-plated brass or stainless steel) and accessories such as locknut, earth tag, sealing washer and shroud. GCC project specifications usually name the certificate required.
