CMP PX2KX Explosive Atmosphere Barrier Cable Gland for Braided Cable
Description
A compound barrier gland for braided, tape and screened cables
The CMP PX2KX is a globally approved explosive atmosphere barrier cable gland for all types of braided and tape armoured cables. It uses metal-to-metal armour clamping with a grooved cone and the AnyWay universal clamping ring, a compound barrier that seals around the individual cores after the inner sheath or bedding is removed, and a controlled outer load retention seal. The datasheet says the compound barrier removes any risk of cold flow and that the gland is deluge protected.
It is used where cables enter Ex d flameproof enclosures, Ex e increased safety junction boxes and Ex n or dust-hazardous equipment in oil and gas, petrochemical and marine installations. The datasheet lists a temperature range of -60 to +85 C, IP66, IP67 and IP68 ingress protection (IP68 tested to 30 m for 12 hours), NEMA Type 4X and superior EMC performance.

Ordering reference and selection
The ordering reference combines the size code, gland type and variant, for example 20PX2KX1RA5 for a nickel plated brass M20 gland or 32PX2KX1RA534 for a nickel plated brass 1 1/4 in NPT gland. Material suffixes added to the ordering reference: brass (no suffix), nickel plated brass 5, 316 stainless steel 4, copper-free aluminium 1; NPT options add digits to the material suffix (for example 1/2 in = 31, 3/4 in = 32, 1 in = 33). Select the size from the cable overall diameter and armour thickness, then check the cores and bedding diameter in the full table; the grooved cone (X) is mainly for braid and tape armour and, for single layer armours such as SWA, the clamping range in the table applies.
Match the gland to the cable construction and confirm the gland certification, thread and zone classification against the equipment certificate; use the correct shroud (for example PVC06 for M20) and accessories.
Installation notes
Barrier glands need the compound to be mixed and installed according to CMP’s instructions, so allow installation time and trained installers. The detachable compound tube allows either direct installation into the enclosure or remote installation. The datasheet reminds users that IP and NEMA ratings and the mechanical class apply when CMP installation accessories are used, and that aluminium alloys are not permitted in Group I mining applications.
Documents and quotation
The attached CMP PX2KX datasheet gives the complete selection table for all 16 sizes, the thread options and the certification block, with each certificate printed so that the marking can be checked against the equipment approval. When requesting a price, tell us the size code, entry thread (metric or NPT), material, cable type and construction, hazardous area classification and quantity, and whether shrouds or other accessories are needed. About brand
CMP Products makes cable glands and cable cleats, and little else. Founded in 1957 and based in Cramlington, United Kingdom, the company is a name that appears on hazardous-area cable schedules for oil, gas and power projects. Seven Star LLC sources and supplies CMP cable glands for explosive atmospheres to contractors in Oman, including the E1FW and the Triton T3CDS, among other glands and cable cleats listed on this page.
CMP cable glands listed here
The T3CDS Triton is a gland for armored cables with a compensating displacement seal, a design that sets the inner seal correctly across the cable diameter range, and an integral deluge seal. CMP lists it as Ex db, Ex eb, Ex nR and Ex ta, with IP66, IP67 and IP68 ratings. The E1FW is the explosive atmosphere gland for steel wire armored (SWA) and aluminum wire armored (AWA) cable.
Ordering CMP glands: what we need
A gland is sized to the cable, so send the cable type and three dimensions: inner bedding diameter, outer sheath diameter and armor wire size. Add the entry thread and size (metric or NPT), the gland material (brass, nickel-plated brass or stainless steel) and accessories such as locknut, earth tag, sealing washer and shroud. GCC project specifications usually name the certificate required.
