CMP 757 Hexagon Head Stopper Plug for Explosive Atmospheres

Description

A hexagon head plug to blank unused Ex cable entries

The CMP 757 is a globally approved hexagon head stopper plug for blanking unused cable and conduit entries in explosive atmosphere equipment. It provides a means of closing an entry either temporarily or permanently, with an optional equipment-interface o-ring seal and a general purpose (industrial) version for non-hazardous locations. The hexagon head is tightened with a spanner, and the datasheet shows a related 747 recessed (Allen key) type and a 767 dome head type for different tamper-proof requirements.

Plugs of this type are needed on every certified enclosure with spare entries: a hazardous area enclosure is only compliant if unused entries are closed with a certified plug of the right protection concept. The metallic versions are rated from -60 to +200 C, the nylon Ex e version from -20 to +60 C, and the ingress protection is IP66, IP67 and IP68.

Choosing the right plug

Select the plug by thread size, protection concept (Ex d, Ex e, dual certified or industrial), and material. The ordering code in the datasheet encodes the type, the certification (D for dual Ex d and Ex e), the thread (M for metric) and the thread size and material digits; for example 757-D-M-3-1 is a dual certified M25 plug in aluminium. Where an o-ring is ordered for the equipment interface the across flats dimension may increase to accommodate it.

For sizes M20, M25, M32 and 1/2, 3/4 and 1 in in nylon, CMP directs buyers to the 717 (TDS811) or 717e (TDS823) stopper plugs. When the equipment specification calls for tamper-proof closure, ask for the recessed 747 type, and confirm the plug marking against the enclosure certificate before ordering.

Installation notes

Thread the plug in until fully seated, using a spanner on the hexagon head. A plug installed in an Ex d enclosure must meet the thread engagement of the enclosure; the datasheet gives a minimum thread length of 15 mm for most sizes. The metallic plug must not be replaced with an uncertified plug, and plugs should be recorded on the installation inspection record for the area.

About brand

CMP Products makes cable glands and cable cleats, and little else. Founded in 1957 and based in Cramlington, United Kingdom, the company is a name that appears on hazardous-area cable schedules for oil, gas and power projects. Seven Star LLC sources and supplies CMP cable glands for explosive atmospheres to contractors in Oman, including the E1FW and the Triton T3CDS, among other glands and cable cleats listed on this page.

CMP cable glands listed here

The T3CDS Triton is a gland for armored cables with a compensating displacement seal, a design that sets the inner seal correctly across the cable diameter range, and an integral deluge seal. CMP lists it as Ex db, Ex eb, Ex nR and Ex ta, with IP66, IP67 and IP68 ratings. The E1FW is the explosive atmosphere gland for steel wire armored (SWA) and aluminum wire armored (AWA) cable.

Ordering CMP glands: what we need

A gland is sized to the cable, so send the cable type and three dimensions: inner bedding diameter, outer sheath diameter and armor wire size. Add the entry thread and size (metric or NPT), the gland material (brass, nickel-plated brass or stainless steel) and accessories such as locknut, earth tag, sealing washer and shroud. GCC project specifications usually name the certificate required.
