OBO 2022902 V-TEC VM20UV Cable Gland M20 UV-Resistant Grey

Description

2022902 is the OBO Bettermann V-TEC VM20UV LGR cable gland: polyamide, light grey, UV-resistant, metric thread M20 x 1.5, for cable diameters of 6 to 13 mm, protection class IP68 and a permitted temperature range of -20 to +65 C. Sold in packs of 50 pieces (smallest sales unit).

A UV-resistant M20 gland for enclosures in sunlit locations

OBO describes the V-TEC gland as a cap-nut design with metric connection thread, suitable for junction boxes, housings and distribution cabinets in private and industrial areas, with strain relief and an integrated sealing lip, tested to DIN EN 62444. The UV-resistant version in light grey is the choice for enclosures mounted outdoors, where standard polyamide glands can age in sunlight.

The datasheet lists a sealing ring seal, straight version, no bend protection, no integrated lock nut, halogen-free material, and flame resistance to VDE 0471 / DIN 695 Part 2-1 at 650 C test temperature. It is not an explosion-proof gland and has no Ex-zone approval (For Ex zone: without).

Key features as printed in the datasheet

Selection and ordering guide

The 6 – 13 mm sealing area defines which cables fit: round cable between those outer diameters. For thicker cables use the M25 gland; for two small cables in one entry use a multi-way seal insert (2022128 on this site, M25 with two 8 mm holes).

No lock nut is included, so order lock nuts separately where the enclosure wall has a plain hole and not a threaded boss.

Installation and operation notes

Drill or punch a clean 20 mm entry, screw the gland in and tighten the body to the enclosure; the datasheet lists an unstable torque of 3.8 Nm. Pass the cable and tighten the cap nut so the sealing ring grips the cable sheath.

IP68 applies when the cable diameter is inside the 6 – 13 mm range and the cap nut is tightened; the gland is not suited to hazardous areas.

Derived figure: one gland weighs about 5.9 g (0.59 kg per 100 pieces), so a pack of 50 weighs about 295 g. Cable outer diameters vary by manufacturer and core count, so measure the actual cable against the 6 to 13 mm sealing range before choosing between M20 and M25.

Applications in Oman and the GCC

Junction boxes, control panels, lighting columns, solar combiner boxes and instrument housings where UV exposure is a concern; the light grey UV-resistant polyamide is widely used on outdoor equipment in sun-intensive GCC locations.

The upper limit of +65 C should be checked against the enclosure surface temperature in direct summer sun.

Ordering tip: the smallest sales unit is 50 pieces and the datasheet states a CO2 footprint of 0.0429 kg CO2e per piece. Lock nuts are not included, so add them if the enclosure wall has plain holes, and check the thread length of 9 mm against the wall thickness of the enclosure so that the gland seats fully.

Installation and selection notes

Drill or punch the enclosure to take the M20 x 1.5 thread, fit the gland with the sealing ring against the wall, insert a cable within the 6 to 13 mm range and tighten the cap nut to compress the seal. Because there is no integrated lock nut, add a separate lock nut when the enclosure wall needs one. The light grey UV-resistant polyamide suits enclosures in sunlit locations, and the pack of 50 suits panel builders and contractors.

About brand

OBO Bettermann is a German family-owned manufacturer of electrical installation systems, tracing its origins to 1911, when Franz Bettermann founded a small company in Hingsen, now part of Menden, making brass goods and electrical products. In 1957 it took over a rolling mill in Menden-Bösperde, strengthening its cable support business. The group is still headquartered in Menden, Sauerland.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list OBO cable trays, glands and surge arresters by OBO article number for contractors and panel builders in Oman and the GCC.
