Roxtec CF 16 Cable Transit Frame for Cabinets

Description

The Roxtec CF 16 is a low-profile bolted metal frame with an integrated compression unit for sealing cables entering cabinets, enclosures and panels. One opening takes Roxtec modules in a 40 x 160 mm packing space, and the frame is attached by bolting. It is available in powder-coated mild steel or AISI 304 stainless steel, in a closed version and an OPEN version that can be fitted around cables already in place. Adapter plates are available for other aperture sizes.

Open or closed frame

The OPEN frame has a pre-opened long side, so the compression rubber can be placed around cables that are already terminated. The standard frame suits new work where cables can be threaded through. The installation instruction for the CF 16 OPEN lists the parts: front plate and back plate halves, compression rubber, M5 screws (2 pieces), M6 screws (6 pieces), Roxtec lubricant and CM sealing modules. It also gives the cut-out as 71 mm by 187 mm with radius corners and mounting holes.

The recommended torque for the crosswise tightening of the compression screws is 7 Nm, always starting with the short sides, and visible excess lubricant after compression indicates good compression. The openable frame can be disassembled and reinstalled after design changes, which makes it suitable for panels that are modified during commissioning.

Fit and selection

Check the available space on the cabinet wall and the maximum wall thickness given in the installation instruction. The frame has a compact depth of 42 mm for most versions and 50 mm for the closed AISI 304 version. Choose stainless steel for corrosive or washdown locations and powder-coated mild steel for dry indoor panels. Use the module table of the Roxtec RM or CM family to fill the 40 x 160 mm packing space and leave solid-core spare modules for future cables.

How the Roxtec CF 16 cable transit frame works

A cable transit seals the place where cables pass through a wall, a panel or a cabinet. The CF 16 is a metal frame that is fixed with bolts in a cut-out in the cabinet wall. Roxtec multidiameter modules are placed in the frame around the cables, and the compression unit built into the frame is then tightened. The compression squeezes the rubber modules, so they seal tightly around each cable and against each other. The seal stops dust, water, fire, gas and rodents, as far as the module and the approval allow, and the cables stay supported.

Where the CF 16 is used

  • Control cabinets and electrical panels.
  • Switchgear and motor control centres.
  • Machine builders that need many cables through a small opening.
  • Telecom and instrumentation enclosures.
  • Panels that are changed during commissioning, with the OPEN frame.

Selection checklist for the CF 16

  • Frame version: closed, or OPEN for cables that are already terminated.
  • Material: powder-coated mild steel or AISI 304 stainless steel.
  • Packing space of 40 x 160 mm in one opening.
  • Cut-out of 71 x 187 mm in the cabinet wall.
  • Attachment by bolting.
  • Roxtec CM modules that match the cable diameters.
  • Roxtec lubricant for the installation.
  • Certificates required, such as the UL and NEMA tightness approvals or the CSA listing.
  • Adapter plates if the cut-out is of another size.
  • Wall thickness of the cabinet at the cut-out.

Installation, commissioning and maintenance notes

Cut the opening to the size on the drawing, with clean edges, and fit the frame with its bolts. Apply the lubricant on the modules as the instruction states, place the modules around the cables and add the stay plate. Tighten the compression screws crosswise, to 7 Nm, starting with the short sides. A little excess lubricant squeezed out indicates good compression. If a cable is added later, the frame can be opened, the modules adjusted and the frame closed again, following the instruction.

Requesting a quotation for the Roxtec CF 16

Send the cable diameters, the frame material and the version. Seven Star LLC serves industrial customers in Oman and the GCC and replies with a quotation based on the information provided.

Closed or OPEN frame

A closed frame suits new work where the cables are threaded through the opening. The OPEN frame has a pre-opened side, so it can be placed around cables that are already fitted with connectors.

Keeping spare capacity

Plan spare modules or a stay plate for cables that may be added later, so that the transit stays sealed after changes.

Records for sealed penetrations

Record the frame, the modules and the date of installation in the panel documents.

Planning the cabinet cut-out and cable layout

Before cutting the cabinet wall, check the space behind the opening for terminals, rails and other parts, and leave room for the cables to bend without stress. Group the cables by diameter so that the modules can be chosen correctly, and keep power and signal cables apart inside the cabinet as the wiring rules say.

Ordering information for the frame

When ordering, state the article number of the frame version and material, and list the modules for the cable diameters, so that a complete sealing set is supplied.

About brand

Roxtec is a Swedish developer and manufacturer of cable and pipe sealing systems, founded in 1990 in Karlskrona, Sweden. Its Multidiameter modules with removable layers fit cables and pipes of many sizes, and are installed in frames in cabinets, walls, decks and floors to seal against fire, water, gas, dust, pests and electromagnetic threats.

Roxtec transit system

A transit combines a frame, sealing modules, a stayplate, a wedge and lubricant. Frames such as CF 16, HD and FlamePlus attach by bolting or welding, modules can hold spare capacity with solid cores, and versions exist for hazardous areas, bonding and grounding, and fire protection. Each product has a product page with variant tables, drawings, installation instructions and certificates.

Supply from Seven Star LLC

Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, sources Roxtec seals against the Roxtec article number and provides the available documents with each quotation. Send the cable schedule with outer diameters, the frame type, and the wall or enclosure construction.
