Operating Principle

The Balluff BES008L operates on the inductive proximity principle: an internal oscillator circuit generates a high-frequency electromagnetic field at the sensing face. When a ferrous or non-ferrous metal target enters the 8 mm sensing range, eddy currents are induced in the target’s surface, damping the oscillator amplitude. This amplitude change is detected by the evaluation circuit and converted into a clean PNP normally-open (NO) switching signal at the M12x1 3-pin connector, with a switching frequency of 1300 Hz supporting fast-moving targets on conveyors and indexing tables.
