Alfa Laval Unique Mixproof Process Double Seat Valve

Description

Alfa Laval Unique Mixproof Process valve: scope and purpose

The Alfa Laval Unique Mixproof Process is an economical double seat valve with seat lift, aimed at valve matrices and pipelines in dairy, food and beverage plants. It gives the core mixproof benefit, no cross-contamination between two lines, in a compact, predefined package. Seven Star LLC supplies this valve in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat.

It builds on the proven Unique Mixproof and Unique single seat valve technology but trims the option list. The brochure describes it as a compact version of the double seat range, available in a set of sizes that cover fundamental hygienic processing needs, which makes it easier to specify than the fully modular premium valve.

How the Process valve works

Two plugs with their own seals sit one above the other, and the space between them forms a leakage chamber. In the closed state this chamber is vented, so if either seal passes liquid, the product flows to the drain at the bottom of the chamber. It cannot reach the other line, and the drip is easy to detect.

When the valve is opened by air, the chamber closes and product flows from one line to the other. The seat lift function is part of the double seat technology that keeps the two media separated at all times. The radial flow design is the reason the manufacturer says virtually no spillage occurs during stroking. A balanced design keeps the actuator forces under control at high pressure.

Positioning against the other Unique Mixproof valves

This is the compact, predefined option of the range. The premium Unique Mixproof offers full modularity, ThinkTop V70 support and optional SpiralClean; the CIP version is purpose-built to route cleaning media. Choose the Process version when you need dependable mixproof separation of product lines without paying for premium options, for example at an intake manifold or between tank outlets.

Selecting the Unique Mixproof Process

  • Role: product matrix, tank farm outlet or pipeline crossing.
  • Size: choose from the predefined size range to match the tube standard.
  • Duty: product, temperature and pressure, including peak pressure.
  • Seal materials: product and cleaning chemical compatibility.
  • Controls: ThinkTop type and bus or discrete signals.
  • Layout: several valves in a cluster? Check drain access for each.

Installation, service and spares

Mount with the drain at the bottom of the leakage chamber visible and routed to a safe point. Because the actuator is maintenance-free, regular attention centres on the seals. The brochure explains that seal changes take minutes with standard service tools and that defined compression extends the maintenance interval; keep a seal kit per valve size.

At commissioning, test open and closed signals, verify no liquid appears at the drain with each side pressurised in turn, and then run a CIP cycle in a validated sequence. Where the plant runs cleaning at high temperature, confirm seal compatibility first.

Unique Mixproof Process in Oman and the GCC

Regional dairies, juice and beverage plants often expand by adding tanks and lines to an existing valve matrix. A compact, predefined mixproof valve lets a plant add capacity in steps without redesigning the matrix. Lower water and cleaning chemical use is relevant where water is desalinated and effluent is regulated, and the manufacturer points to ThinkTop as a way to reduce that consumption. High ambient temperature and dust are best handled with correctly sealed control units and clean, dry instrument air.

Plant owners also like that a predefined valve simplifies spare part planning. With a limited set of sizes and a maintenance-free actuator, a store room needs mainly seal kits and a few complete spare valves, which suits sites where overseas deliveries take time. Commissioning teams benefit as well, since fewer configuration choices mean fewer ordering mistakes and quicker acceptance testing on site.

Information to send with a Unique Mixproof Process RFQ

  • Quantity, size and tube standard.
  • Product, temperature and pressure range with peaks.
  • CIP chemistry and temperature.
  • Seal materials and ThinkTop type.
  • Nameplate data of any valve being replaced.

Site conditions in Oman for the Unique Mixproof Process

Valves and their accessories in Oman work in demanding conditions: high ambient temperatures, direct sun on outdoor pipe racks, dust, and corrosive coastal air at many oil, gas and water sites. When you specify the Unique Mixproof Process, confirm the pressure and temperature ratings, body and trim materials and any sour-service or hazardous-area requirements against the actual line data, and check that seals and soft parts suit the process medium and the full temperature range.

For reliable operation, plan access for maintenance, define which spare parts are kept on site, and record the configuration of each installed Unique Mixproof Process. Sending the complete process data sheet with your RFQ allows the selection to be checked before the order is placed.

About brand

Alfa Laval is a Swedish engineering group built on three technologies: heat transfer, separation and fluid handling. Gustaf de Laval and Oscar Lamm founded the company in Stockholm in 1883 as AB Separator to make de Laval's continuous milk separator; the name Alfa-Laval was adopted in 1963. The company built its first heat exchanger in 1938, and today its plate heat exchangers, separators, pumps and valves are used in energy, marine, food, water and process industries. Group headquarters are in Lund, Sweden.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier listing Alfa Laval gasketed, fusion-bonded and welded plate heat exchangers and hygienic pumps for buyers in Oman and the GCC. Units and spare plates or gaskets are matched from the serial number on the frame nameplate.

Alfa Laval at a glance

Origin Founded in Stockholm in 1883 by Gustaf de Laval and Oscar Lamm as AB Separator; renamed Alfa-Laval in 1963
Headquarters Lund, Sweden
Ownership Alfa Laval AB, a public company listed on Nasdaq Stockholm
Milestones Continuous separator (1880s), disc-stack separator using von Bechtolsheim's conical disc patent (1890), first heat exchanger (1938)
Product families Gasketed, brazed, fusion-bonded and welded plate heat exchangers, separators and decanters, hygienic pumps and valves

Alfa Laval heat exchangers and pumps

Model Type Typical use
M6, M10, M15, T20 Gasketed plate heat exchangers HVAC and district cooling, cooling water, lube oil and process heating or cooling; plates can be added or cleaned
AlfaNova 27 Fusion-bonded plate heat exchanger, all stainless steel Compact duty where copper brazing is not acceptable, such as ammonia and some process fluids
Compabloc+ Fully welded plate heat exchanger Higher pressures and temperatures and aggressive media in refineries and chemical plants, without gaskets on the plate pack
LKH Hygienic centrifugal pump Food, beverage, dairy and pharmaceutical processing, with cleaning in place

Where Alfa Laval equipment is used

In Oman and the GCC, Alfa Laval plate heat exchangers are common in district cooling plants, HVAC systems, power stations, desalination, oil and gas processing, refineries and marine engine rooms. Gasketed units suit duties that need regular cleaning or later capacity changes, while welded and fusion-bonded units handle higher pressures, temperatures and media that gaskets cannot. Hygienic LKH pumps serve dairy, juice and beverage plants.

Ordering Alfa Laval equipment: what we need

For spare plates and gaskets, send the serial number and model from the frame nameplate. Alfa Laval keeps the build record, which defines the plate material, pattern and gasket type for each position. For a new heat exchanger add both fluids, flow rates, inlet and outlet temperatures, allowed pressure drop, design pressure and temperature, and connection standard. For an LKH pump send the model, size, impeller diameter, motor data and duty point.
