Adam Equipment AE 503 Label-Printing Weighing Indicator

The Adam AE 503 is a weighing indicator with an integrated label printer. It prints weight, barcodes, QR codes, pictures, logos and text on 50 mm-wide labels, so weighed items can be tagged straight away for dispatch, stock, traceability or customer identification.

Weigh and label in one step

The ABS housing holds a large backlit LCD with 34 mm digits and over/under/within limit symbols, a sealed colour-coded keypad and the built-in printer. Label layouts can be created and edited on a computer with the included software, and printing supports labels in several languages. The indicator offers weighing, parts counting, percentage weighing, check counting, averaging, checkweighing, dynamic or animal weighing, accumulation, display hold and peak hold.

Parts counting optimisation automatically refines piece weight as parts are added, and the AE 503 has a programmable backlight, audible checkweighing alarm, user-selectable scale division, zero tracking and a rechargeable battery with programmable auto power-off. An RS-232 interface connects it to computers or printers. External calibration allows verification and adjustment with test weights, and the PLU memory count is listed as zero, so confirm any product look-up needs with the manufacturer.

Use it with Adam PT platforms, AELP pallet beams and other load cell bases for goods-in labelling, packing stations and stock tagging. Adam lists an RS-232 cable, RS-232-to-USB adapter, indicator stand, the AdamDU data collection program and label rolls (800 per roll) as accessories. What to confirm before ordering

Confirm the load cell or platform type and signal range, the number of load cells, the label size and layout requirement, the mains adapter plug type and the temperature range of 0 to 40 C. The datasheet does not list a legal-for-trade approval for the AE 503. See also controllers and data acquisition.

Set-up notes: the AE 503 provides a 12 VDC adapter and an internal rechargeable battery, so a weighing and labelling station can be moved when needed. Label layouts are prepared on a computer, loaded into the indicator and printed on the 50 mm-wide label roll, which Adam lists as an accessory at 800 labels per roll. When the indicator is paired with a platform, calibrate the combined system externally with test weights, set the scale division to suit the platform, and run a trial label before putting the station into service so that weight, units and barcode content are confirmed.
