Ratings and overload of the ACS480-04-033A-4
The IEC ratings table gives nominal use 32 A / 15 kW, light duty 30.5 A / 15 kW and heavy duty 25 A / 11 kW, with a maximum current of 45 A. The input current is 40.7 A without a choke and 32 A with a choke. Take the motor nameplate current as the starting point, not the kilowatt figure alone.
Upstream protection: 63 A gG (OFAF000H63, I2t 20000 A2s) or 100 A gR (170M2700); a breaker option is S 203P-B 63. Heat loss is about 396 W (1351 BTU/h) and air flow 150 m3/h, with noise of 69 dB(A).
Switching frequency derating factors are 0.65 at 8 kHz and 0.49 at 12 kHz, with none at 4 kHz. Between +50 and +60 degrees C the current decreases by 1% for each extra degree, and above 1000 m altitude by 1% per 100 m.
Dimensions of frame R4: IP20 height 240 mm (back height 205 mm), width 262 mm, depth 213 mm, 5.6 kg. With the UL Type 1 kit the height becomes 391 mm and the weight 6.9 kg. Allow 75 mm free space above and below. The maximum motor cable is 100 m without EMC limits; for EMC compliance ABB lists 30 m for category C3 and 10 m for C2 with the internal filter, or 30 m for C1, C2 and C3 with the optional external filter.

Choosing an ABB drive
ABB's ACS drive codes are easy to read once you know the pattern. In ACS580-01-046A-4, "ACS580" is the drive family, "01" means a wall-mounted single drive, "046A" is the rated output current (about 46 A) and "-4" means a 380–480 V supply. The family is chosen by application: ACS355 for compact machinery, ACS310 for simple pumps and fans, ACS580 as the general-purpose drive, ACQ580 for water and wastewater with pump functions such as pipe fill and dry-run protection, and ACS880 for heavy industrial duty with direct torque control.
