How the FL NAT 2008 works
The FL NAT 2008 is a managed NAT router in a switch housing. It forwards traffic between its eight Fast Ethernet ports, and, in addition, it performs network address translation. With 1:1 NAT, the addresses of machines inside a machine network are mapped to addresses of the plant network, so that several identical machines with identical internal addressing can be connected to one plant network without changing their IP configuration. Port forwarding and IP masquerading are also listed. The unit is managed through a web interface using HTTP or HTTPS, and supports MRP for ring redundancy.
The supply is 24 V DC, 18 to 32 V DC, single. Typical current is 180 mA at 24 V DC. MRP media redundancy, SNTP time synchronisation, RMON history and 8 priority classes of QoS are listed. The MAC table holds 8k entries, and the IP address is obtained through a DHCP client. Operating temperature is 0 to 60 degrees C.
Where the FL NAT 2008 fits in a system
A NAT switch is used at the border between a machine network and a plant network. Machine builders deliver identical machines with fixed IP addresses; the NAT device makes each machine appear with a unique address to the plant network, and it separates the traffic so that a fault or a misconfiguration inside the machine does not spill over. It also supports PROFINET Conformance Class A, 8 QoS priority classes and SNTP time synchronisation, which are listed in the table.
Use the FL NAT 2008 at the boundary between a machine network and a plant network. It is not a normal unmanaged switch: it needs configuration.
Selection and ordering checklist
- Define the address plan: internal machine addresses and external plant addresses to be mapped.
- Check that 8 copper ports at 10/100 Mbps are enough.
- Check the 24 V DC supply range of 18 to 32 V DC (single supply).
- Confirm management access, using HTTP or HTTPS, and your security rules.
- Check MRP compatibility if the plant network uses rings.
- Check the temperature range of 0 to 60 degrees C against the cabinet.
Installation, commissioning and maintenance of the FL NAT 2008
Mount the FL NAT 2008 on a DIN rail, connect the 24 V DC supply and wire the machine network and plant network to separate ports. Configure the NAT rules through the web interface, check the address mapping with a laptop on each side and save the configuration. Note that the manufacturer states that support by phone or on site may be chargeable.
The manufacturer states that the development process is certified according to an industrial security standard; check the datasheet for the standard before you quote it in a project.
Typical applications in Oman and the GCC
In Oman and the GCC, machine builders and OEMs deliver packaged skids with identical IP schemes; a NAT switch avoids re-addressing them when they join the plant network. It is useful on compressor packages, water-treatment skids and production lines.
Machine builders in Oman and the GCC who ship packaged skids with fixed IP addresses benefit from NAT at the plant boundary.

About brand
Phoenix Contact is a German, family-owned manufacturer of electrical connection technology and industrial automation, founded in 1923 in Essen by Hugo Knümann. It began as a sales company, and in 1928 Knümann developed the modular terminal block mounted on a rail, the product the company is still best known for. Phoenix Contact is headquartered in Blomberg, North Rhine-Westphalia.
Seven Star LLC lists Phoenix Contact surge protection, power supplies and safety relays, and sources these components by order number for panel builders and maintenance teams in Oman.

Ordering Phoenix Contact components: what we need
Phoenix Contact items are ordered by a seven-digit order number together with the type designation, both printed on the side of the module. Send both, plus the quantity. If the number is unreadable, send the type text and a photo. For power supplies, state input voltage, output current and whether the unit runs in parallel or with a redundancy module. For buyers in the GCC replacing an older unit, we check the manufacturer's documentation for the listed successor type.
Facts checked against Phoenix Contact's own company history (phoenixcontact.com), October 2026.
