Phoenix Contact FL SWITCH 1005N Industrial Ethernet Switch

Description

FL SWITCH 1005N: unmanaged industrial Ethernet switch with 5 RJ45 ports

The Phoenix Contact FL SWITCH 1005N (order no. 1085039) is the smallest of the narrow unmanaged 1000N switches: five RJ45 ports at 10/100 Mbps in a housing 22.5 mm wide, 117 mm high and 84 mm deep. It has autonegotiation, autocrossing and QoS, and it connects to the supply through push-in spring terminals. The 5 in the name is the number of ports.

Seven Star LLC supplies the FL SWITCH 1005N as an independent supplier in Muscat for projects in Oman and the GCC, quoted against the exact part number shown here.

How the FL SWITCH 1005N works

The FL SWITCH 1005N is an unmanaged Ethernet switch: it learns the MAC addresses of connected devices and forwards frames only to the port where the destination lives, using store-and-forward switching, with autonegotiation of speed and duplex on every port and automatic crossover so that patch and crossover cables are both accepted. There is nothing to configure and no IP address to assign, so it works on power-up. LEDs show supply voltage, link and activity per port. The input and output buffers listed in the datasheet absorb short bursts of traffic.

The supply range is 9 to 32 V DC and 18 to 30 V AC. Typical current consumption is only 19 mA at 24 V DC, with a maximum of 110 mA at 9 V DC, and the power dissipation is 0.99 W. The MAC address table holds 2k entries.

Where the FL SWITCH 1005N fits in a system

Narrow unmanaged switches in the 1000 series are used to extend a control network inside a cabinet: PLC, HMI, remote I/O, drives and cameras connect through a short copper link. They support the PROFINET Conformance Class A listed on the datasheet, but they have no diagnostics or redundancy features of their own. If you need VLANs, ring redundancy or SNMP monitoring, a managed switch such as the EP4000 series is the correct choice.

The FL SWITCH 1005N suits a small cabinet with a PLC, an HMI and a few I/O stations. For more ports, the 8-port 1085256 and the 16-port 1085255 have the same feature set.

Selection and ordering checklist

  • Count the devices to connect and choose a switch with enough ports for the present count plus a reserve.
  • Confirm that all devices need only 10/100 Mbps and copper links of up to 100 m.
  • Check the supply: the table gives a DC range and a 24 V AC option.
  • Check the width and depth against the cabinet space.
  • Confirm that unmanaged operation is acceptable, with no VLAN or monitoring.
  • Check the ambient temperature range.

Installation, commissioning and maintenance of the FL SWITCH 1005N

Mount the FL SWITCH 1005N on a DIN rail, connect the supply to the push-in terminals and patch the devices with shielded twisted pair cable with RJ45 connectors. Observe the maximum 100 m per segment. After power-up, check the US LED and the link LEDs. Keep shielding continuous and ground it according to the project rules.

Mounting is on a DIN rail, with IP30 protection and an operating range of -10 to 60 degrees C; maximum altitude is 2000 m. Shock is 30g and vibration 5g to 150 Hz.

Typical applications in Oman and the GCC

In Oman and the GCC, small switches like this connect PLC panels, remote I/O, HMIs and CCTV inside local cabinets at plants, pumping stations and substations. The upper temperature limit matters in sun-exposed enclosures.

Compact switches like this are common in small utility panels and instrument cabinets across the GCC.

About brand

Phoenix Contact is a German, family-owned manufacturer of electrical connection technology and industrial automation, founded in 1923 in Essen by Hugo Knümann. It began as a sales company, and in 1928 Knümann developed the modular terminal block mounted on a rail, the product the company is still best known for. Phoenix Contact is headquartered in Blomberg, North Rhine-Westphalia.

Seven Star LLC lists Phoenix Contact surge protection, power supplies and safety relays, and sources these components by order number for panel builders and maintenance teams in Oman.

Ordering Phoenix Contact components: what we need

Phoenix Contact items are ordered by a seven-digit order number together with the type designation, both printed on the side of the module. Send both, plus the quantity. If the number is unreadable, send the type text and a photo. For power supplies, state input voltage, output current and whether the unit runs in parallel or with a redundancy module. For buyers in the GCC replacing an older unit, we check the manufacturer's documentation for the listed successor type.

Facts checked against Phoenix Contact's own company history (phoenixcontact.com), October 2026.
