Phoenix Contact UT 10 Feed-Through Terminal Block, 57 A

Description

UT 10: 57 A feed-through block for 10 mm² cables

The UT 10 is the heavy-duty feed-through block of the mid UT range. It carries 57 A at 1000 V, takes conductors from 0.5 up to 16 mm² and has a nominal cross section of 10 mm². It is used where a panel receives thick supply cables or where a single block must carry the whole current of a sub-circuit.

In the type code UT means universal terminal and 10 is the nominal cross section in mm². The order number 3044160 refers to the gray version. Seven Star LLC supplies the UT 10 in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat.

Current path and heat in the UT 10

At 57 A the current bar and clamp of the UT 10 must move more than ten times the energy of a signal terminal into the heat budget of the panel. The data sheet states 1.82 W power dissipation at nominal condition per block, so a row of ten fully loaded blocks adds about 18 W inside the cabinet. This is a number that should go into the thermal design, especially in hot installations.

The larger clamp opening is useful with stranded cable in 10 and 16 mm², where a crimped ferrule or lug gives the most secure joint. The M4 screw with 1.5 to 1.8 Nm torque is the same thread size as on the UT 6, so common tools are used for both.

Where the UT 10 fits in a terminal row

A UT 10 is usually chosen for distribution: incoming feeds to a control panel, outputs of a large power supply, main supply to a frequency drive, or battery and charger connections. A neighbouring UT 4 or UT 6 can then take the branch circuits so that the row follows the cable size down from the source.

For earth, the UT 10-PE has the same footprint, so the protective conductor can run next to the power blocks with the same layout.

Selection and ordering checklist for the UT 10

  • Current of the circuit and cabinet temperature, with derating.
  • Conductor size and whether a ferrule or lug is used.
  • Whether 16 mm² is required (the UT 10 reaches it, the UT 6 does not).
  • Rail type and row length.
  • Bridges, covers and partition plates.
  • Quantity in multiples of the packing unit.

Installation, commissioning and maintenance of the UT 10

Prepare the cable end with a ferrule for stranded wire, insert fully and tighten at 1.5 to 1.8 Nm. Do not exceed 16 mm². On a vertical rail keep the cable weight supported by clamps or trunking so that the terminal does not carry cable strain.

During maintenance, check joints on circuits that carry the largest and most variable load, and look at the colour of the housing for any heat marks. Replace a damaged block rather than repairing it.

Typical applications in Oman and the GCC

In Oman and the GCC the UT 10 appears in drive cabinets, UPS and battery panels, distribution boards for chiller and pump stations, and in supply rows of small switchboards. Cabinet temperatures in outdoor kiosks can climb well above the temperature of the surrounding air, so the heat contribution of 1.82 W per block should be checked.

Where marine or coastal humidity is present, the closed housing and tightened screw joint give a stable contact over years of service.

Practical design notes for the UT 10

A practical way to size a UT 10 row is to start from the heat budget. Ten blocks at the listed 1.82 W add about 18 W; thirty add about 55 W, which is the output of a small cabinet heater running in reverse. In a sealed enclosure in direct sun that heat decides whether a fan or a larger enclosure is needed, so add it to the losses of drives and supplies before you fix the enclosure size.

Plan the cable route as well. A 10 mm² cable is stiff, and the bend radius, the gland position and the distance to the terminal all decide whether the terminal is loaded by the cable weight. Leave enough free length to bend the conductor into the clamp without pulling on the block, and clip the cable to the rail or a support bar at the entry.

About brand

Phoenix Contact is a German, family-owned manufacturer of electrical connection technology and industrial automation, founded in 1923 in Essen by Hugo Knümann. It began as a sales company, and in 1928 Knümann developed the modular terminal block mounted on a rail, the product the company is still best known for. Phoenix Contact is headquartered in Blomberg, North Rhine-Westphalia.

Seven Star LLC lists Phoenix Contact surge protection, power supplies and safety relays, and sources these components by order number for panel builders and maintenance teams in Oman.

Ordering Phoenix Contact components: what we need

Phoenix Contact items are ordered by a seven-digit order number together with the type designation, both printed on the side of the module. Send both, plus the quantity. If the number is unreadable, send the type text and a photo. For power supplies, state input voltage, output current and whether the unit runs in parallel or with a redundancy module. For buyers in the GCC replacing an older unit, we check the manufacturer's documentation for the listed successor type.

Facts checked against Phoenix Contact's own company history (phoenixcontact.com), October 2026.
