Phoenix Contact MACX MCR-T-UI-UP Temperature Transducer SIL 2

Description

MACX MCR-T-UI-UP programmable temperature measuring transducer, SIL 2

The MACX MCR-T-UI-UP (item number 2811394) is a freely programmable temperature measuring transducer in a 17.5 mm DIN rail housing. It converts the signal of resistance thermometers, thermocouples, resistance-type sensors, potentiometers or small voltage signals into a linear current or voltage output and adds a limit-value relay with a changeover contact. The wide-range supply of 19.2 to 253 V AC/DC, four-way electrical isolation and functional safety up to SIL 2 make it a universal temperature conditioner for process plants. Seven Star LLC supplies the MACX MCR-T-UI-UP in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat and this page condenses the manufacturer data sheet.

How the MACX MCR-T-UI-UP is configured

Sensor type, wiring (2, 3 or 4 wire), measuring range, unit, filter, alarm signal and output signal are set by software, using either an FDT/DTM or the clipx ENGINEER DEVICE PARAMETERIZATION program (item 1371665) with the IFS-USB-PROG-ADAPTER (2811271) or the Bluetooth IFS-BT-PROG-ADAPTER (2905872) named in the data sheet. The -C version is configured to the customer order and calibrated ready for operation. A DIP-switch help function is also available through the Signal Conditioner app via the QR code on the housing. The sensor error behaviour is freely programmable, so a broken thermocouple can drive the output to a defined high or low alarm value.

Using the limit relay and the safety options

The integrated relay with a single changeover contact can be configured as a limit switch on the measured temperature, for example to trip a heater or raise an alarm. The data sheet notes a safe limit-value switching function through the optional MACX MCR-I20 current terminal block (2905680) and a cold junction compensation plug MACX MCR-CJC (2924993) for thermocouples. Output 4 to 20 mA is certified up to SIL 2 / SC 2, while temperature sensors and voltage signals may be used with restrictions in such applications, and the PL d rating according to EN ISO 13849 is stated for the device.

System fit and related products

The MACX MCR-T-UI-UP is the DIN-rail alternative to head-mounted temperature transmitters. It makes sense where sensors are wired back to a marshalling cabinet and where one module type should cover Pt 100, Ni, Cu and many thermocouples. A QUINT4-SYS-PS/1AC/24DC/2.5/SC (2904614) supply with TBUS is named in the data sheet for supplying a row of devices. For voltage and current conditioning the MACX MCR-UI-UI-NC and MACX MCR-VDC are the neighbouring Phoenix Contact types.

Selection checklist

  • Sensor type, wiring and the full-scale range needed; check that the minimum span meets the accuracy statement.
  • Output required: 0/4 … 20 mA or voltage, and the load.
  • Need for a limit relay and its rating (30 V, 0.5 A AC or 1 A DC).
  • Safety rating: SIL 2 / SC 2 on the 4 … 20 mA output with SIL mode on.
  • Supply voltage on site (24 V DC up to 230 V AC) and Zone 2 requirements.
  • Screw, push-in, or factory-configured (-C) version.
  • Programming adapter and software for commissioning.

Installation and commissioning

Mount the MACX MCR-T-UI-UP on the DIN rail, connect the sensor to the plug-in terminal block (use a 2 mm test socket for test points), and program the module before connecting the loop to the PLC. Verify the measuring chain with a resistance decade box or thermocouple calibrator at several points, check the green PWR LED, the red ERR flashing for sensor errors and the yellow LED for the switching output. Record the parameter file with the loop folder. Since 4-way isolation is provided, no extra isolator is required between sensor and PLC.

Typical applications in Oman and the GCC

The MACX MCR-T-UI-UP is used for process temperature monitoring on heat exchangers, furnaces, compressors, turbine skids, boilers, thermal desalination units and cooling circuits where sensors are Pt 100 or thermocouples and the signal goes to a PLC or DCS. The universal supply allows the same module to be used on 24 V DC or 230 V AC cabinet supplies.

About brand

Phoenix Contact is a German, family-owned manufacturer of electrical connection technology and industrial automation, founded in 1923 in Essen by Hugo Knümann. It began as a sales company, and in 1928 Knümann developed the modular terminal block mounted on a rail, the product the company is still best known for. Phoenix Contact is headquartered in Blomberg, North Rhine-Westphalia.

Seven Star LLC lists Phoenix Contact surge protection, power supplies and safety relays, and sources these components by order number for panel builders and maintenance teams in Oman.

Ordering Phoenix Contact components: what we need

Phoenix Contact items are ordered by a seven-digit order number together with the type designation, both printed on the side of the module. Send both, plus the quantity. If the number is unreadable, send the type text and a photo. For power supplies, state input voltage, output current and whether the unit runs in parallel or with a redundancy module. For buyers in the GCC replacing an older unit, we check the manufacturer's documentation for the listed successor type.

Facts checked against Phoenix Contact's own company history (phoenixcontact.com), October 2026.
