Ashcroft G2 Pressure Transducer, 30 to 20,000 psi
Description
Ashcroft G2 pressure transducer: welded stainless steel sensor from 30 to 20,000 psi
The Ashcroft G2 is a compact pressure transducer with an all-welded stainless steel sensor and pressure connection, built around a polysilicon thin-film sensing element and ASIC-based electronics. It is a configurable OEM and plant sensor: you choose the pressure connection, the output signal, the electrical connector and the range, from 30 psi to 20,000 psi. Seven Star LLC supplies the G2 in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat, and this page explains how to read the order code and what the published performance means for compressor, pump and hydraulic duty.
Reading the G2 order code
The data sheet shows the example G27 M01 42 M2 60# G -XTU. In plain terms it is the G2 series with 1.0 percent total error band (model G27), a 1/8 NPT male pressure connection (M01), a 4-20 mA two-wire output (42), an electrical termination code (M2), a 60 psi range, gauge pressure (G) and an option code. The main blocks are:
- Pressure connection: M01 1/8 NPT male, M02 1/4 NPT male, MEK 7/16-20 SAE #4 male, MEV 9/16-18 SAE #6 male with Buna-N O-ring, MS2 1/4-19 BSP male, MG2 G 1/4 B male, M38 3/8-24 SAE #3 male, M33 3/8-24 UNJF3A with 37 degree cone seat, M76 7/16-20 UNJF3A with 37 degree cone seat. Several are not UL recognized above 10,000 psi.
- Output signal: 05 for 0-5 Vdc, 10 for 0-10 Vdc, 15 for 1-5 Vdc, 16 for 1-6 Vdc, 42 for 4-20 mA and RM for 0.5-4.5 Vdc ratiometric to a 5 Vdc supply.
- Electrical termination: a connector or cable code from the ordering page.
- Range and measurement type: for example 60# and G for gauge.

Overpressure and why it matters
The data sheet states the proof and burst limits by range band. Up to 750 psi the proof is 2 times range and the burst 10 times range; between 1,000 and 4,000 psi the proof is 2 times range and the burst 5 times range; at 5,000 to 7,500 psi they are 1.5 and 5 times; and at 10,000 to 20,000 psi they are 1.2 and 2.4 times. Transients on compressor discharge or pump start-up should be compared with these figures, not with the nominal range, because a spike that exceeds proof can shift the zero permanently.
How the G2 sensing and electronics work
The polysilicon thin-film element is deposited on the stainless steel diaphragm, so the sensing structure is part of the pressure boundary and no oil fill or elastomer separates the medium from the sensor. The ASIC electronics condition the bridge signal, compensate it over temperature and linearise it into the selected output. The 4-20 mA version runs on a loop supply of 9 to 36 Vdc and the allowed loop resistance falls as the supply drops, so the loop must be checked at the lowest supply voltage. Reverse-polarity and mis-wire protection are built in.
Where the G2 fits and related Ashcroft sensors
The G2 is a general-purpose transducer. Other Ashcroft families cover different needs: the A2X for explosion-proof and flame-proof housings, the S1 for industrial process use, the E2 for sanitary connections and the SL17 for submersible level measurement. The G2 housing is nylon and the connectors are automotive and industrial plug types, so it suits skid and machine mounting rather than a classified-area field installation that needs a certified enclosure.
Selection and ordering checklist for the G2
- Range, measurement type (gauge) and the maximum surge pressure against the proof limit.
- Pressure connection thread and seal type, including the UL note above 10,000 psi.
- Output signal and the supply available in the control panel.
- Electrical termination and the ingress rating needed (IP67 or IP65).
- Temperature at the sensor and the resulting error band (1 % or 1.5 % of span).
- Media compatibility with 17-4 PH stainless steel and the 304 stainless steel connection.
Installation, commissioning and maintenance
Screw the transducer in by its hex using a sealing method that suits the thread type; never turn it by the housing. Keep the port away from pulsation sources or use a snubber. Check the output at zero pressure and at a known pressure with a calibrator when commissioning, and trend the zero over time against the stated stability of 0.25 percent of span per year. Shielded cable and a proper earth reduce noise on long runs, though the sensor itself has high EMI and RFI immunity ratings. Replace rather than repair a transducer that has seen over-range pressure.
Typical applications in Oman and the GCC
Typical uses listed by the manufacturer include compressor control, pump monitoring, process automation and control, HVAC and refrigeration, hydraulic and pneumatic sensing and mobile machinery. In the Gulf these translate to air compressor packages, hydraulic power units, chilled water and refrigeration plant, wellsite pumps and pneumatic control panels, where the wide temperature range up to 125 °C suits high ambient heat.

The 2089 is a precision digital test gauge, the kind used as a reference when other gauges and transmitters are checked. Beyond these, the manufacturer's program covers pressure switches, pressure sensors, diaphragm seals, thermometers, thermowells and hand pumps.

Ordering Ashcroft gauges: what we need
An Ashcroft gauge code is built from dial size, case type, wetted material, connection and range. Send the code from the dial or the nameplate if it is readable. Otherwise state the dial size, the pressure range and units, connection size and position (lower or back), the tube and socket material, and whether liquid filling or a diaphragm seal is needed. Mention the process medium and temperature. For the 2089, give the range, pressure type and units.
