SAMSON Type 3510 Micro-flow Control Valve PN 40-400
Description
SAMSON Type 3510 micro-flow valve: precise control of very small flows
The SAMSON Type 3510 is a pneumatic micro-flow control valve made for pilot plants, technical research facilities and process lines where flows are tiny but pressure can be very high. Its KVS coefficients start at 0.0001 and stop at 1.6, so it covers flows that a conventional control valve cannot throttle. The body is stainless steel as standard, and it is available as a globe or angle valve. Seven Star LLC supplies Type 3510 valves in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat.
Two actuator versions exist, both with a 120 cm² actuator area:
- Type 3510-1: Type 3271-5 pneumatic actuator.
- Type 3510-7: Type 3277-5 pneumatic actuator for integral positioner attachment.

How the Type 3510 works
The process medium passes through the valve in the direction of the arrow, and the plug position sets the cross-section between plug and seat. The plug stem is joined to the actuator stem by a stem connector and sealed by an adjustable packing. An anti-rotation fixture stops the body-to-bonnet or intermediate-piece thread from loosening in service. For stricter fugitive emission limits a double-walled metal bellows can be fitted, and a metal bellows version is offered up to PN 250 or PN 325 with an external tightness of 10-5 mbar·l/s or better.
Fail-safe action depends on the spring arrangement in the actuator: stem extends closes the valve on air failure, stem retracts opens it.
KVS ranges and trim interchangeability for the Type 3510
| KVS range | Seat bore | Rangeability | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0.0001 to 0.0063 | 2 mm | <15:1 | Seat and plug in 1.4122/1.4112, 1.4122/Stellite or Stellite/Stellite only |
| 0.01 to 0.25 | 3 mm | 15:1 to 50:1 | Seat thread M10x1 |
| 0.4 | 4 mm | 50:1 | Seat thread M10x1 |
| 0.63 to 1.6 | 10 mm | 50:1 | Seat thread M16x1; usable up to PN 100 at most |
Because the seat threads differ, trims can be exchanged only within the KVS ranges 0.0001 to 0.4 (M10x1) and 0.63 to 1.6 (M16x1). Plan any later re-trim around this limit.
Where the Type 3510 fits and related parts
The Type 3510 is used where standard control valves have no KVS small enough. Related items on the same project include the Type 3271-5 and Type 3277-5 pneumatic actuators, positioners such as electropneumatic types with NAMUR interfaces, limit switches and solenoid valves. A valve selection guide in the datasheet maps the Type 3510 against pressure rating and KVS, and also references the Type 3252 at the upper end of the KVS range; the Type 3248 cryogenic valve and Type 3351 on/off valve address other duties.
Selection and ordering checklist for the Type 3510
- Maximum and minimum flow, with density and temperature, to calculate KVS.
- Pressure rating from PN 40 to 400 and whether a bellows seal is needed for emissions.
- Connection: thread (G or NPT) or flange/welding ends DN 10, 15, 25.
- Body material: 1.4401/1.4404 or 2.4610, and trim material (hard facing for abrasive or high-pressure fluids).
- Temperature: standard to 220 °C or insulating section for cold or hot duty.
- Characteristic and rangeability, fail-safe direction, positioner and accessories.
Installation, commissioning and maintenance
For flanged valves with accessories, SAMSON recommends an insulating section or bellows seal so there is room to mount positioners and solenoids. Use clean, dry instrument air; with seat bores of only 2 to 4 mm, particles in the process fluid can block or score the trim, so install a fine strainer upstream. At commissioning, stroke the valve and check the 7.5 mm travel against the positioner, and re-torque the bonnet connection after the first thermal cycle. Keep a spare plug, seat and packing set, because small trims wear first.
Typical applications in Oman and the GCC
Micro-flow control appears in university and industrial research labs, catalyst test rigs, chemical dosing skids, pilot hydrogen and synthesis-gas units, and sampling or bleed lines in refineries and petrochemical plants. Chemical injection and small utility flows in oil and gas also use very low KVS valves. In hot, humid conditions keep the actuator ventilated and protect the positioner from direct sun.
Information to send with an RFQ for the Type 3510
- Type 3510-1 or 3510-7, KVS value, connection and size.
- Fluid, flow rate range, inlet and outlet pressure, and temperature.
- Required pressure rating, body and trim material, and leakage class.
- Positioner and accessory requirements, and project specification.
Site conditions in Oman for the 3510
Valves and their accessories in Oman work in demanding conditions: high ambient temperatures, direct sun on outdoor pipe racks, dust, and corrosive coastal air at many oil, gas and water sites. When you specify the 3510, confirm the pressure and temperature ratings, body and trim materials and any sour-service or hazardous-area requirements against the actual line data, and check that seals and soft parts suit the process medium and the full temperature range.
For reliable operation, plan access for maintenance, define which spare parts are kept on site, and record the configuration of each installed 3510. Sending the complete process data sheet with your RFQ allows the selection to be checked before the order is placed.

About brand
SAMSON is a German manufacturer of control valves, actuators, positioners and self-operated regulators. Hermann Sandvoss founded the company in Düsseldorf on 1 April 1907, and its first important product was a thermostatic valve that controlled temperature without external power. After moves to Mannheim, SAMSON settled in Frankfurt am Main in 1916, where SAMSON AG is still headquartered.

Samson valve, actuator and positioner types
Samson builds a control valve from modules. The Type 3241 globe valve is the general-service body of Series 240, and the Type 3251 is the Series 250 body for higher pressure ratings. Either one is combined with a Type 3271 pneumatic diaphragm actuator or a Type 3277, whose yoke allows the positioner to be attached directly with a concealed travel linkage.
Among the positioners listed are the Type 3725 and the Type 3730 family: the 3730-1 as the basic electropneumatic version, sold in its current generation as TROVIS 3730-1, and the 3730-3 with HART communication and valve diagnostics. Samson also makes PROFIBUS PA and FOUNDATION fieldbus variants in the same family, plus self-operated pressure and temperature regulators.
Where Samson valves are used
Samson control valves throttle steam, gas and liquids in chemical and petrochemical units, refineries, gas processing, power stations, water and desalination plants, and food production. Many reach site as part of a skid or package, so the plant instrument team often meets them first when a positioner or actuator needs replacing. We supply these items to end users and contractors throughout the GCC.

Ordering Samson parts: what we need
Every Samson device has a nameplate with the type, a configuration ID (Var-ID) and a serial number. A photo of that plate is the surest route to an exact match. Without it, please send:
- Valve: type, DN or NPS, pressure rating, body and trim material, Kvs or Cv, plug and seat style, packing and bonnet type
- Actuator: type, effective area in cm², bench range, fail action and travel
- Positioner: full type code including Ex protection, communication and options such as limit switches or position transmitter
We check the code against Samson documentation and provide the manufacturer's data sheet on request.
Facts checked against SAMSON's corporate chronicle and press material, October 2026.

Answers from our engineering team on installation, compatibility and integration.
01What KVS values does the Type 3510 offer?
The datasheet lists KVS coefficients from 0.0001 up to 1.6. Values 0.63 to 1.6 are limited to PN 100 at most, and small KVS values below 0.1 have a rangeability under 50:1.
02What pressure rating does the Type 3510 reach?
The Type 3510 covers PN 40 to 400. Metal bellows seal versions are offered up to PN 250 or PN 325.
03What is the difference between the Type 3510-1 and 3510-7?
