The TDK B32305A4252B040 is a DeltaCap X Black premium capacitor from the EPCOS power factor correction range, type designation MKD440-D-25.0-X. It is a three-phase unit with an internal delta connection, rated 25 kvar at 50 Hz (30 kvar at 60 Hz) on a 440 V AC rating, built around polypropylene film in a round, black-painted extruded aluminium can with a threaded mounting stud. Selection and ordering guide

The datasheet is organised by ordering code, so each rating in the series has its own PDF. For this code the rating is fixed: 440 V, 25 kvar at 50 Hz. Reactive output falls with the square of the applied voltage; the can label shown in the photo lists 22.2 kvar at 415 V and 20.6 kvar at 400 V for the 50 Hz rating.

The 440 V rating suits 400 or 415 V networks where voltage rise or harmonics may lift the capacitor voltage; the datasheet permits VR + 10 % for up to 8 hours a day.
Size short-circuit protection at 1.6 to 1.8 times the rated capacitor current as per the datasheet: 1.6 x 32.8 A is about 52 A, 1.8 x 32.8 A about 59 A (derived arithmetic, check the fuse series you use).
Connecting cables and protection must carry 1.5 x IR continuously, which is about 49 A at 50 Hz (derived).

Installation and operation notes

Leave at least 12 mm above every can so the overpressure disconnector can extend, use flexible leads, and do not clamp the folding beads. Use the threaded bottom stud for earthing, remove the varnish under the washer and nut if the chassis is used as the earth path, and keep within the 12 Nm limit given in the earthing paragraph (the mounting table gives 10 Nm for the M12 stud).

Before switching in again, discharge to 10 % of rated voltage; the built-in resistors reach 75 V or less within 60 s. HRC fuses are for short-circuit protection only and must not be used to switch capacitors. Use a thermal-magnetic relay for overload protection, read the current twice a year with a true-RMS meter, and consider detuned (reactor) banks when non-linear loads grow. A dent deeper than 1 mm rules the capacitor out of use.

Applications in GCC power systems

Oil and gas facilities, petrochemical plants, desalination and pumping stations and large air-conditioning plants run many induction motors that depress power factor. A 25 kvar DeltaCap X Black can is a common step size for automatic banks in indoor motor control centres and substations. The datasheet limits the series to indoor mounting, naturally air cooled or with forced cooling; at 65 C ambient the class falls to 100 000 h, so in hot switchrooms check the cabinet temperature rise and ventilation. The datasheet warns against chloride or sulphide gas atmospheres and calls for regular terminal cleaning in dust, both relevant to coastal and desert sites.
