ABB ACS480-04-02A7-4 General Purpose Drive 0.75 kW 2.6 A

Description

Where the ACS480-04-02A7-4 is used

At 0.75 kW it is the smallest 400 V rating, ideal for small fans and light conveyors. In ABB’s ratings table the matching type is the ACS480-04-02A7-4: 0.75 kW typical motor power, 2.6 A nominal output, frame R1. It belongs to the all-compatible drive platform, so panels, PC tools and fieldbus adapters are shared with the ACS380 and ACS580 families.

Basic equipment covers a standard ACS-AP-S assistant control panel, an RIIO-01 module with digital, analog and relay I/O plus EIA-485, an embedded Modbus RTU fieldbus and a built-in brake chopper. Related products sit in AC drives; the wall-mounted sister platform is on the ABB ACS580 page.

Ratings and overload of the ACS480-04-02A7-4

For a pump or fan, light duty at 2.5 A (0.75 kW) normally applies; for conveyors or mixers with high starting torque, use heavy duty, 1.8 A (0.55 kW). ABB lists a maximum current of 3.2 A. Input current is 3.5 A without choke and 2.6 A with choke.

Upstream protection: 6 A gG (OFAF000H6, I2t 110 A2s) or 25 A gR (170M2694); a breaker option is S 203P-B 6. Heat loss is about 44 W (150 BTU/h) and air flow 57 m3/h, with noise of 63 dB(A).

If you raise the minimum switching frequency, multiply the rated current by 0.65 (8 kHz) or 0.48 (12 kHz). The temperature rule is 1% reduction per degree between +50 and +60 degrees C, while altitude reduces the rating by 1% per 100 m over 1000 m.

Dimensions of frame R1: IP20 height 223 mm (back height 205 mm), width 73 mm, depth 208 mm, 1.7 kg. With the UL Type 1 kit the height becomes 293 mm and the weight 2.1 kg. Allow 75 mm free space above and below. The maximum motor cable is 100 m without EMC limits; for EMC compliance ABB lists 30 m for category C3 and 10 m for C2 with the internal filter, or 40 m for C1, C2 and C3 with the optional external filter.

Type code and option codes

Read ACS480-04-02A7-4 in four parts: ACS480 is the series, 04 is the module construction, 02A7 the size from the ratings table and 4 the 380 to 480 V input. With no options the drive is IP20, cabinet-optimised, with the ACS-AP-S panel, RIIO-01 module, C2 filter, STO and brake chopper. Option codes are added with a plus sign, for example J425 for the ACS-AP-I panel, J424 for a blank panel cover, K451 for FDNA-01 DeviceNet and K454 for FPBA-01 PROFIBUS DP.

The technical data chapter also lists a fundamental power factor of 0.98 at nominal load, induction, permanent magnet and SynRM motor control, a short-circuit proof motor output and natural convection on R0 and a cooling fan on R1 to R4.

About brand

ABB is the Swiss-Swedish engineering group for electrification and automation: low voltage drives, motors, circuit breakers and motor control, process instruments and analysers, control systems and robots. It was formed on 5 January 1988 by the merger of two older companies. ASEA was founded in Västerås, Sweden, in 1883 by Ludvig Fredholm to make electric lighting and generators. BBC Brown Boveri was founded in Baden near Zurich in 1891 by Charles E. L. Brown and Walter Boveri. ABB Ltd is incorporated in Switzerland, headquartered in Zurich and listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange and Nasdaq Stockholm.

Choosing an ABB drive

ABB's ACS drive codes are easy to read once you know the pattern. In ACS580-01-046A-4, "ACS580" is the drive family, "01" means a wall-mounted single drive, "046A" is the rated output current (about 46 A) and "-4" means a 380–480 V supply. The family is chosen by application: ACS355 for compact machinery, ACS310 for simple pumps and fans, ACS580 as the general-purpose drive, ACQ580 for water and wastewater with pump functions such as pipe fill and dry-run protection, and ACS880 for heavy industrial duty with direct torque control. Size the drive on the motor's full-load current, not only its kW rating, and allow derating for the high ambient temperatures common in Gulf electrical rooms.

Where ABB products are used

In Oman and the GCC, ABB drives and motors run pumps, fans and compressors in water and wastewater plants, district cooling, oil and gas and industry. ABB flowmeters, level instruments and analysers are used in water utilities, power and desalination plants and refineries, and SACE breakers protect switchboards in buildings and plants.
