Chromalox STFX Small Tank Flange Heater, 1-25 kW
Description
Replaceable-element flange heater for small storage tanks
The Chromalox STFX is a small-tank flange immersion heater whose elements can be changed without draining the tank. That suits smaller, critical storage units that must stay full, such as lube oil, fire water, water/glycol, diesel, fuel oil, asphalt, vegetable oil or other liquids named in the data sheet. Electric heat has no open flame and no steam or gas plumbing, and the units are described as quiet and easy to control.
Standard construction pairs 304 stainless steel element sheaths with a carbon steel ANSI 150 lb flange from 3 in to 12 in, a 24 in (610 mm) immersion length and a moisture resistant NEMA 4 / IP66 terminal housing. Each unit has a Type J thermocouple on the pipe wall for over-temperature sensing, and standardized heater cores keep spare elements to a minimum.

Standard models and watt density selection
The sheet lists stocked models in four watt-density groups: 40, 20, 10 and 5 W/in2. Chromalox recommends 40 W/in2 for water or water/glycol, 20 W/in2 for light oil and mildly corrosive solutions, 10 W/in2 for medium-weight oil and 5 W/in2 for heavy oil and severely corrosive solutions, and stresses that choosing the sheath material and watt density needs engineering judgement by the plant engineer. An extract of the 20 W/in2 group follows.
| Model (20 W/in2 group) | Volts | kW | Flange | Tubes | Heater part no. |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| STFXS-03-003P-E4 | 480 | 3.0 | 3 in 150# | 3 | 306608-011 |
| STFXS-06-006P-E4 | 480 | 6.0 | 4 in 150# | 6 | 306608-012 |
| STFXS-09-009P-E4 | 480 | 9.0 | 5 in 150# | 9 | 306608-013 |
| STFXS-12-012P-E4 | 480 | 12.0 | 6 in 150# | 12 | 306608-014 |
| STFXS-24-024P-E4 | 480 | 24.0 | 8 in 150# | 24 | 306608-015 |
| STFXS-24-025P-E4 | 600 | 25.0 | 8 in 150# | 24 | 306608-020 |
Ordering code and what to confirm
The model is built as STFX plus thermowell material (S 304, I Incoloy 800, X other), flange material (blank carbon steel, S 304 stainless, X other), number of thermowells 01 to 08, wattage in three digits, terminal housing (E4 or E2), voltage, circuits, phase and kilowatts. The sheet example is STFXSS-03-004P5-E4 480V 1-3P 4.5kW, and it notes that tube count, length, wattage and voltage are not a finite list and should match the design.
Confirm the fluid and its viscosity, tank flange rating and bolting, available nozzle size, voltage and phase, area classification for the terminal housing and the control method before ordering. Browse more heating equipment in HVAC and combustion.

About brand
Chromalox is an American manufacturer of electric process heating, heat trace and thermal control products. The company was founded in 1917 by Edwin L. Wiegand and, according to its website, is today part of Spirax Group. Its catalog spans immersion and circulation heaters, tubular and strip heaters, heat trace cables and controls, and temperature and power controllers.
Industrial heaters and heat trace
The industrial range covers screw plug and flanged immersion heaters, over-the-side heaters, air and radiant heaters, steam generators and packaged process heating systems. Heat trace products include constant wattage, self-regulating and mineral-insulated cables, with thermostats, controllers and connection kits for freeze protection and process temperature maintenance.
Controls and requesting a quote
Controllers run from single-loop temperature and process controllers to SCR power controllers and heat trace controllers. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, lists selected Chromalox models for projects in Oman and the GCC. Send the full model code, voltage, kW or wattage and the fluid or application, and we will prepare a quotation from the Chromalox data sheet.
