Raychem 10XTVR2-CT High-Power-Retention Heating Cable, 150 C

Description

10XTVR2-CT is the 10 W class, 200-277 Vac version of the Raychem XTVR, a self-regulating heating cable with a high power retention (HPR) polymeric-fibre core. It maintains process temperature up to 302 F (150 C), withstands 482 F (250 C) exposure, and is listed under part number 2000003075.

A high power retention cable for lines that run hot

XTVR is designed for freeze protection or process temperature maintenance of pipes and vessels that need high output and high exposure temperature. In the code 10XTVR2-CT, 10 is the power class, 2 selects 200-277 Vac (XTVR1 is 100-130 Vac) and -CT is the fluoropolymer outer jacket.

The datasheet states a minimum 95 percent power retention after 10 years at the maximum operating temperature of 302 F (150 C), a design life of 30 years or more depending on application, and a 10 year product warranty. Seven wattage levels at 240 V let designers match output to heat loss instead of oversizing.

Features stated in the datasheet

  • Maintain up to 302 F (150 C) power on; intermittent exposure up to 482 F (250 C) for 2000 hours cumulative.
  • Polymeric-fibre self-regulating element with spacer, 14 AWG nickel-plated copper conductors, fluoropolymer inner and outer jackets.
  • Rated for organic and aqueous inorganic chemicals and corrosives; traced surface type metal.
  • 10XTVR2-CT falls in temperature class T3 (392 F / 200 C), and installation is possible down to -76 F (-60 C).

Selecting an XTVR code

The datasheet lists 4 codes at 120 V and 7 at 240 V: 3XTVR2-CT 2000003070, 5XTVR2-CT 2000003072, 8XTVR2-CT 2000003073, 10XTVR2-CT 2000003075, 12XTVR2-CT 2000003076, 15XTVR2-CT 2000003078 and 20XTVR2-CT 2000003080 (240 V), with 5, 10, 15 and 20 in the 120 V group. Temperature class steps with power: 3, 5 and 8 are T3A (180 C), 10, 12 and 15 at 240 V are T3 (200 C), and 20 W and 15XTVR1 are T2D (215 C).

Choose the class from heat loss and the system T-rating required in the area; the maker directs designers to TraceCalc Pro and Design Guide H56882 for 208 V and 277 V circuit lengths.

Installation and test notes

Follow the Raychem installation manual H57274: secure with glass tape every foot, keep to the half-inch minimum bend radius, allow loops at flanges, valves and supports, and use only Raychem power, splice, tee and end-seal kits. The manual lists S-150 and E-150 splice and end seal as approved with XTV(R) cables.

Check insulation resistance with a megohmmeter at 500, 1000 and 2500 Vdc before and after insulating, expect more than 1000 megohms, and keep ground-fault protection on each branch circuit.

Where XTVR is used

General engineering note: with 150 C maintain capability, XTVR suits steam-traced line replacements, heavy fuel oil and bitumen-type products, and lines that see hot flushes or steam purges up to the 250 C exposure limit. In Gulf refineries, terminals and process plants these are typical reasons to choose a hotter-rated self-regulating cable over BTV or QTVR.

The fluoropolymer jacket also covers chemical exposure, so XTVR is chosen where both the temperature and the chemical environment are demanding.

Information to send with an RFQ for the Raychem 10XTVR2-CT High-Power-Retention Heating Cable

Heat-tracing cable is quoted per metre or per reel, but the cable alone rarely completes a circuit. To get an accurate offer for the Raychem 10XTVR2-CT High-Power-Retention Heating Cable, list the pipe sizes and lengths to be traced, the maintain temperature, the lowest expected ambient temperature and the highest exposure temperature during steam-out or process upsets. State the supply voltage, the breaker rating you plan to use and whether the area is classified, with the gas group and temperature class required.

  • Total cable length, with an allowance for valves, flanges, pumps and supports.
  • Connection kits: power connection, splice, tee and end seal, plus attachment tape and labels.
  • Thermal insulation type and thickness, because heat loss drives the watts per metre needed.
  • Control method: ambient sensing, line sensing or an electronic controller with monitoring.

With this data the circuit can be checked against the maximum circuit lengths in the manufacturer’s design tables before the order is placed, which avoids nuisance breaker trips during cold start-up.
