Raychem 15QTVR2-CT Self-Regulating Heating Cable, 110 C
Description
15QTVR2-CT is the 15 W class, 200-277 Vac member of the Raychem QTVR family, a self-regulating heating cable with fluoropolymer inner and outer jackets for pipe heat tracing up to 225 F (110 C). It is listed under part number 040615-000 and is built for process-temperature maintenance, with freeze protection possible on pipes with high heat loss.
Higher-output heat tracing for process lines held up to 110 C
The code splits into 15 (power class), QTVR (family), 2 (200-277 Vac group; QTVR1 is 100-130 Vac) and -CT (fluoropolymer outer jacket). Unlike the BTV family, QTVR is sold only in the -CT jacket, which the datasheet rates for organic and aqueous inorganic chemicals and corrosives.
The construction is a self-regulating conductive core between nickel-plated copper bus wires, a fluoropolymer inner jacket, a tinned-copper braid and a brown fluoropolymer outer jacket. Because the core adjusts its own output with temperature, the cable can overlap itself and be cut to length in the field without changing output per foot.
Features stated in the datasheet
- Maintain or continuous exposure up to 225 F (110 C), power on or off, with the same value for maximum intermittent exposure.
- Temperature class T4 (275 F / 135 C) and minimum installation temperature -76 F (-60 C).
- Nonhazardous and hazardous locations, including areas with corrosives; metal and some plastic pipes.
- Bus wire is 16 AWG on 15QTVR2-CT; the 14 AWG bus wire is used on 15QTVR1, 20QTVR1 and 20QTVR2.

Choosing within the QTVR range
Six codes are orderable: 10QTVR1-CT 259951-000, 10QTVR2-CT 391991-000, 15QTVR1-CT 148345-000, 15QTVR2-CT 040615-000, 20QTVR1-CT 498703-000 and 20QTVR2-CT 988967-000. For 240 V systems the three choices are the 10, 15 and 20 classes; step up a class only when the heat-loss calculation demands it, since each step cuts the maximum circuit length (a 20 A breaker allows 210 ft of 15QTVR but 160 ft of 20QTVR at 50 F start-up, per the datasheet).
The datasheet marks the 50 A breaker column as not permitted for 15QTVR-CT at 240 V. If the design needs more than 110 C maintain, move to XTVR or HTV.
Installation notes from the Raychem maintenance manual
Manual H57274 covers QTVR with the other self-regulating cables: tape to the pipe with GT-66 or GS-54 glass tape roughly every foot, use AT-180 aluminium tape on plastic pipe or pump bodies, loop extra cable at heat sinks such as flanges, valves and supports, and never use metal straps or vinyl tape. Components are connected only with Raychem kits, and the manual notes PMKG power, splice and tee kits are approved with BTV and QTVR cables.
Insulate soon after tracing with fire-resistant insulation such as fibreglass, mineral wool or calcium silicate, apply Electric Traced labels at 10 ft intervals, and repeat the megohmmeter test after insulation. Ground-fault protection on every branch circuit is mandatory.
Typical uses and design limits
General engineering note: a 110 C maintain limit suits lines where fluids must stay fluid but not very hot, such as heavy chemicals, viscous product and glycol-water lines, and it can serve as the first step above BTV. The fluoropolymer jacket is the reason it is chosen on chemical sites.
On hot Gulf sites, remember that the ambient and solar heating of pipes adds to heater output in the field, so the design must be done with TraceCalc Pro using the real ambient and insulation data.
