HYTORC HY-Series Electric Hydraulic Bolting Pumps

Description

The HYTORC HY-Series electric hydraulic pumps are the standard bolting pumps for everyday work with HYTORC hydraulic torque wrenches. The three models, HY-115, HY-230 and HY-400, differ in supply voltage (115 V, 230 V and 400 V respectively), so a pump can be matched to the available site power. The cut sheet describes simple, manual operation, versatility and economy, with quiet operation at about 80 dB.

One pump for up to four tools

A four-stage pump delivers high pressure to the hydraulic wrench, and each unit can power up to four torque tools through its ports (a one-port or four-port configuration is offered), which increases productivity when several flange bolts are tightened at the same time. A large reservoir with a clear-view sight glass allows the oil level to be checked quickly, and an oil cooler is fitted. The pressure gauge reads 0 to 10,000 psi with +/- 1 percent accuracy. The remote control cable can be ordered in several lengths from 5 m to 50 m, and upgrades include a Heavy Duty Roll Cage for a wider, more stable footprint during transport, a wireless remote with a range of about 30 m, and deadman switches that let the operator stop the tool immediately.

Power, supply and reservoir by model

Model Power Supply Reservoir
HY-115 1.6 kW / 2.2 HP, 15 A 1-phase 90-125 V, 60 Hz (75-115 V available) 8 L (2.1 gal)
HY-230 1.5 kW / 2.0 HP, 7 A 1-phase 200-230 V, 50/60 Hz 8 L (2.1 gal)
HY-400 1.8 kW / 2.4 HP, 6 A 3-phase 380-460 V, 50/60 Hz 5.2 L (1.37 gal)

The same cut sheet shows that the pumps share a common frame: 480 mm wide, 303 mm long, 423 mm high and 27 kg. The quick-spec box lists a power value for the HY-115 that differs slightly from the table above; the table values are used here.

Choosing and operating a bolting pump

Pick the model from the supply available: single-phase 115 V for light site power, single-phase 230 V for most workshops and 400 V three-phase for industrial plants. Check the number of tools to be run at the same time and the hose length needed, because long hoses reduce the speed of the stroke. The pump must be rated for the working pressure of the torque wrench, and hydraulic oil must be the type approved in the manual; the manufacturer publishes a safety data sheet for its hydraulic oil. Position the pump on a level surface, use the roll cage on rough ground, and use a deadman pendant or foot pedal where the work area requires an immediate stop.

About brand

HYTORC is an American manufacturer of industrial bolting tools, dating to 1968, when John Junkers began developing a hydraulic torque wrench at his import company Cita Industries in New Jersey. The company was renamed HYTORC in 1975 to focus on industrial torque wrenches and has been based in Mahwah, New Jersey, since 1995. Its tools are used on flanges, turbines and heavy structural joints.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list HYTORC tools for flange and structural bolting work in Oman and the GCC.

Milestones

  • 1968: John Junkers starts work on a hydraulic torque wrench.
  • 1975: The company is renamed HYTORC.
  • 1995: HYTORC moves to Mahwah, New Jersey.

HYTORC product series

Hydraulic torque wrenches include the MXT+, EDGE S and AVANTI square-drive wrenches and the STEALTH and VERSA low-clearance wrenches for tight access. The HY-Series electric hydraulic pumps drive these wrenches.

Handheld tools include the LITHIUM SERIES II and LION GUN X cordless electric torque tools and the jGun DIGITAL pneumatic torque tool.

Square-drive wrenches such as the MXT+ and EDGE S take impact sockets, while low-clearance STEALTH and VERSA wrenches use hex links for nuts with limited radial space. HYTORC's reaction washer approach removes the need for an external backup wrench on many joints, and the cordless LITHIUM SERIES II and LION GUN X tools speed up bolting where no hydraulic hose or pump is wanted.

Where HYTORC tools are used

Flange joints on pipelines, pressure vessels and heat exchangers, turbine and compressor casings, wind turbines, and heavy structural and mining equipment bolting.
