A stainless steel vertical multistage pump for clean water duties

The Sulzer VMS is a vertical single or multi-stage centrifugal pump for stand-alone pumping of clean domestic, commercial and process water, and for pressure boosting in buildings and industry. It is built from 1.4301 or 1.4401 stainless steel, with WRAS, ACS and NSF certification stated for drinking water, in a modular construction that allows many combinations of materials, seals, connections and motors. Sulzer lists municipal and domestic water supply, cooling water, hot water, fire fighting, irrigation, and food, chemical and process industry use.

The data sheet also lists nominal capacity, NPSH at best efficiency (0.6 to 5.0 m) and maximum efficiency (54 to 80 percent) for every model; 2P and 4P denote 2-pole and 4-pole versions.

Selection and ordering notes

Choose the model by duty point on the 50 Hz performance map, then the pressure class, connection style, seal faces and elastomers from the liquid. The design uses a stainless steel base to preserve water quality, and the optimized flow profile and motor cooling fan reduce noise. Pressure sewer systems that discharge through narrow pipe rely on grinder pumps, and the ABS Piranha is the Sulzer answer to that duty. Sulzer has worked in pumps and fluid engineering since 1834 from Winterthur, Switzerland. Seven Star LLC lists the Sulzer ABS Piranha PIR-S21/2 submersible grinder pump and supplies Sulzer pumps and parts to utilities and contractors in Oman.

Sulzer ABS Piranha grinder pump series

The Piranha range is split into the S series, which includes the S21, and the PE series with IE3 motors. In front of the impeller sit a spiral bottom plate, a stationary cutter ring and a shredding rotor that cut cloths and plastic before they reach the hydraulics. The bottom plate is adjustable to take up wear. Versions exist for 50 Hz and 60 Hz, three-phase 400 V and single-phase 230 V supplies.
