LESER Type 457/458 High Pressure Full Nozzle Safety Valve
Overview
The LESER Type 457/458 is a full-nozzle safety valve engineered for LESER’s High Pressure duty class, built to handle very high mass flows at pressures that would overtax a conventional angle-body design. Covering DN 25 to DN 150 with pressure ratings from PN 63 up to PN 400 and set pressures reaching 400 bar (5,800 psig), the Type 457/458 is the valve process engineers reach for on high-pressure compressor discharge lines, gas processing trains, and reactor systems where both the flow capacity and the erosive energy of a relief event are far higher than a standard flanged valve is built to withstand.
Backed by genuine manufacturer documentation, Seven Star LLC proudly supplies the Type 457/458 to high-pressure gas processing, petrochemical, and compressor packaging projects across Oman and the wider GCC. Engineering teams in Muscat, Sohar, and Salalah rely on Seven Star LLC for LESER hardware, correct nozzle-sizing calculations, and manufacturer documentation on installations where an undersized or misapplied safety valve is not an acceptable risk.
Operating Principle
Unlike a standard-seat safety valve, the Type 457/458 uses a full-nozzle construction in which the entire wetted flow path – inlet, seat, and disc guide – is formed by a single replaceable nozzle insert rather than relying on the body casting itself to carry the flow. Process pressure acts against the disc through this nozzle throat, and once the calibrated spring force is overcome at set pressure, the disc lifts to full travel and the nozzle directs the discharging fluid cleanly through the outlet, isolating the body casting from direct high-velocity contact with the escaping process stream.
This isolation is the entire point of the design: at 300–400 bar, a relief event carries enough kinetic energy to erode an unprotected body casting over repeated cycles, and a full-nozzle valve confines that erosive wear to a single replaceable wear part instead of the primary pressure boundary. Because the nozzle can be re-machined or exchanged independently of the body, the valve’s high-pressure service life is extended substantially compared with a semi-nozzle or standard-seat design running the same duty, and the valve remains a purely mechanical, spring-actuated device requiring no external power to operate.
Engineering Design of the LESER Type 457/458
The LESER Type 457/458 body is available in carbon steel, stainless steel, and high-temperature carbon steel castings, matched to inlet flange classes running from PN 63 up to PN 400 on DIN EN 1092 connections or the ASME B16.5 equivalent, giving specifying engineers the flexibility to match body pressure rating precisely to the upstream piping class rather than over- or under-specifying the connection. Orifice sizes span the E through Q range, covering the mass-flow requirements of everything from a single high-pressure relief line to a large compressor discharge header.
The LESER Type 457/458 installation follows standard vertical inline flanged practice with the discharge routed to a rated flare or vent header capable of handling the valve’s full-capacity blow-off. The bonnet and spring housing are engineered for the higher spring loads that high-set-pressure duty demands, and bellows options are available to compensate for variable back pressure on systems where downstream piping resistance would otherwise shift the effective set point. Metallic, sealing-plate, and o-ring seat options let the same nozzle platform be tuned for bubble-tight shutoff or maximum cycle durability depending on the application.
Key Features
The LESER Type 457/458 is purpose-built for the demands of high-pressure mass-flow relief. Highlights include:
- Full-nozzle construction that isolates the body casting from high-velocity, erosive discharge flow.
- Pressure rating range of PN 63 to PN 400 on DN 25 to DN 150 connections, supporting set pressures up to 400 bar (5,800 psig).
- Orifice sizes E through Q, giving high mass-flow capacity for compressor and reactor protection duty.
- Body material options in carbon steel, stainless steel, and high-temperature carbon steel for a wide range of process media.
- Replaceable nozzle insert that confines erosive wear to a single serviceable part rather than the pressure boundary.
- Optional bellows construction to compensate for variable or superimposed back pressure.
- Metallic, sealing-plate, or o-ring seat configurations to balance leak-tightness against cycle durability.
- Full international approvals including CE, ASME, EAC, TS, and UKCA certification for global project specification.
Industrial Applications
The LESER Type 457/458 protects the highest-pressure equipment in a process facility: reciprocating and centrifugal compressor discharge lines, high-pressure separators and reactors, gas injection and re-injection systems, and hydro-processing units where operating pressures routinely exceed what a standard flanged safety valve is rated to handle. It is a common specification on gas processing plants, petrochemical crackers, and high-pressure utility systems across the oil and gas, chemical, and power generation sectors.
Working closely with plant engineers in the region, Seven Star LLC supplies the Type 457/458 throughout Oman and the GCC, supporting high-pressure gas processing and compression assets in the Sohar and Salalah industrial zones as well as upstream and midstream projects across Muscat and the wider Sultanate of Oman. Plant engineers specifying safety valves for high-pressure compressor packages or reactor systems work directly with Seven Star LLC’s instrumentation division for nozzle sizing, material selection, and supply.

Where LESER safety valves are used
LESER safety valves protect pressure vessels, heat exchangers, boilers, compressors, pumps and piping against overpressure in oil and gas, refining, petrochemical, power, industrial gas, food and pharmaceutical plants throughout the GCC. Spring-loaded valves are the standard choice. Pilot-operated valves are selected where operating pressure runs close to set pressure or back pressure is high.Ordering LESER valves: what we need
A safety valve is always built to a set pressure, so a type number alone cannot be quoted. Please send the nameplate data of the existing valve (type, article or job number, serial number, set pressure, orifice) or a full data sheet: medium and its state, set pressure, operating and relieving temperature, back pressure, required capacity, inlet and outlet size and rating, body and trim material, design code (ASME Section VIII or PED) and options such as bellows, lifting lever or sour service materials. We verify the selection against LESER documentation and supply the manufacturer's certificates on request.Browse LESER products by category: Safety Relief Valves.
