LESER High Efficiency POSV Series Safety Valves

Description

Overview

The LESER High Efficiency series is LESER’s pilot-operated safety valve (POSV) platform, built for applications where a conventional spring-loaded direct-acting valve cannot deliver the tight operating margins, high capacity, or extreme temperature range that modern process plants demand. The family spans four types – Type 811 and Type 821 as single-outlet models, and Type 814 and Type 824 as dual-outlet variants – unified by a common pilot-operated architecture that allows the main valve to run at operating pressures up to 97% of set pressure and tolerate back pressures up to 95% of set pressure, margins a direct spring-loaded valve cannot match.

Backed by genuine manufacturer documentation, Seven Star LLC supplies the full High Efficiency POSV range with complete manufacturer documentation, materials certification, and technical sizing support. Process engineers across the region specifying LNG, cryogenic, or high-pressure gas systems can source LESER pilot-operated hardware through Seven Star LLC with a formal quotation and the manufacturer datasheet.

Operating Principle

Unlike a direct spring-loaded safety valve, every valve in the LESER High Efficiency series uses a small pilot valve to sense system pressure and control the main valve’s large piston-actuated disc. Because the main disc is held closed by system pressure acting on a piston rather than by a spring alone, the valve can operate much closer to its set point without simmering or leaking, and can be built in far larger orifice sizes for a given set pressure than equivalent spring-loaded design. The High Efficiency Type 811 and Type 814 use LESER’s Pop Action pilot, which snaps the main valve fully open once the set pressure is reached, giving maximum relieving capacity in the shortest possible time – the characteristic behavior that makes this series ‘high efficiency’ relative to conventional designs.

The High Efficiency Type 821 and Type 824 instead use a Modulate Action pilot, opening the main valve in proportion to the degree of overpressure rather than snapping fully open, which reduces medium loss and mechanical shock on the piping system during minor pressure excursions. Types 814 and 824 add a second discharge outlet to the same pilot-operated body, letting a single valve vent to two separate downstream systems (for example, a flare header and an atmospheric vent) without installing two full valve assemblies. Across all four types, the pilot-operated principle allows service down to -162°C, covering LNG and other cryogenic duties that would be impractical for a standard spring-loaded valve.

Engineering Design of the LESER High Efficiency Series

All four High Efficiency types share a common main-valve body architecture sized from DN 25 to DN 200 (NPS 1 to NPS 8), with the pilot assembly mounted externally where it can be inspected, tested, or replaced without removing the main valve from the line. Materials extend well beyond standard carbon and stainless steel to include Duplex, Monel, and Hastelloy alloys, reflecting the series’ use in sour gas, offshore, and other highly corrosive or cryogenic services where standard steels are unsuitable.

The distinction across the family is the pilot action and outlet configuration rather than the core body platform: Type 811 (Pop Action, single outlet) covers the widest pressure range at 2.5–255.5 bar; Type 821 (Modulate Action, single outlet) extends to a much higher 1.0–650 bar; and Types 814 and 824 apply the same Pop Action and Modulate Action pilots respectively to a dual-outlet body for DN 100–200 applications requiring simultaneous relief to two destinations. This lets a specifying engineer choose action type and outlet count independently while keeping a common pilot-operated maintenance philosophy across the installed base.

Key Features

The LESER High Efficiency POSV series delivers a consistent set of advantages across all four types:

  • Pilot-operated design permits operating pressures up to 97% of set pressure, far tighter than direct spring-loaded valves.
  • Back-pressure tolerance up to 95% of set pressure suits flare and closed-header discharge systems.
  • Pop Action types (811, 814) deliver maximum relieving capacity with a fast, full-open response.
  • Modulate Action types (821, 824) reduce medium loss and piping shock during minor overpressure events.
  • Dual-outlet types (814, 824) route a single valve’s relief flow to two separate downstream systems.
  • Temperature range of -162°C to 320°C (-260°F to 608°F) covers cryogenic LNG duty through high-temperature process gas.
  • Material options including Duplex, Monel, and Hastelloy extend the series into sour and corrosive gas service.
  • External pilot mounting allows inspection and testing without removing the main valve from the process line.

Industrial Applications

The LESER High Efficiency POSV series is specified wherever process conditions exceed what a direct spring-loaded valve can safely or economically handle: LNG liquefaction and regasification terminals, cryogenic air separation units, high-pressure gas transmission stations, offshore platforms, and sour gas processing trains. In the Sultanate of Oman and across the wider GCC, this includes LNG and gas processing infrastructure serving the Sohar and Salalah economic zones, where cryogenic storage, high-pressure compression skids, and flare header systems depend on pilot-operated relief valves for both capacity and tight operating margins.

Working closely with plant engineers in the region, Seven Star LLC supplies the High Efficiency POSV range to EPC contractors, oil and gas operators, and industrial gas plants throughout Oman and the GCC, backing every supply with genuine manufacturer documentation and pilot-operated system sizing support. Facility engineers specifying dual-outlet relief for flare and vent systems, or cryogenic-service protection for LNG trains, can rely on this trusted supply channel for Type 811, 821, 814, or 824 without compromising on traceability.

About brand
Safety valves are the whole business at LESER, which traces its origins to Hamburg in 1818. The range runs from small threaded valves to API 526 flanged valves and pilot-operated designs. Seven Star LLC lists LESER safety relief valves across these product groups and sources them, with the manufacturer's documentation, for pressure equipment in Oman.

LESER safety valve product groups

LESER sorts its valves into named groups, and the type number identifies the design:
  • API: Type 526 flanged safety relief valves to API 526 dimensions
  • High Performance: Type 441/442 flanged valves, and Type 455/456 and 457/458 for high pressure
  • Compact Performance: threaded Types 437, 459 and 462
  • High Efficiency: pilot-operated safety valves such as the pop action Type 811
  • Critical Service: Types 447 and 449 for corrosive media, the 447 with PTFE-lined wetted parts
  • Clean Service: hygienic valves for food and pharmaceutical plants
Modulate Action valves and change-over valves, which let one of two safety valves be taken offline, complete the listing.

Where LESER safety valves are used

LESER safety valves protect pressure vessels, heat exchangers, boilers, compressors, pumps and piping against overpressure in oil and gas, refining, petrochemical, power, industrial gas, food and pharmaceutical plants throughout the GCC. Spring-loaded valves are the standard choice. Pilot-operated valves are selected where operating pressure runs close to set pressure or back pressure is high.

Ordering LESER valves: what we need

A safety valve is always built to a set pressure, so a type number alone cannot be quoted. Please send the nameplate data of the existing valve (type, article or job number, serial number, set pressure, orifice) or a full data sheet: medium and its state, set pressure, operating and relieving temperature, back pressure, required capacity, inlet and outlet size and rating, body and trim material, design code (ASME Section VIII or PED) and options such as bellows, lifting lever or sour service materials. We verify the selection against LESER documentation and supply the manufacturer's certificates on request.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Type 811 and Type 821 in the High Efficiency series?
Type 811 uses Pop Action, snapping fully open at set pressure for maximum relieving capacity, while Type 821 uses Modulate Action, opening in proportion to overpressure to reduce medium loss and piping shock. Type 821 also covers a much higher pressure range, up to 650 bar versus 255.5 bar for Type 811.
When should I choose a dual-outlet Type 814 or 824 instead of a single-outlet model?
Dual-outlet types 814 and 824 are specified when a single valve needs to relieve simultaneously to two separate downstream systems, such as a flare header and an atmospheric vent, avoiding the cost and footprint of installing two separate valve assemblies.
What temperature range does the High Efficiency POSV series cover?
The series covers -162°C to 320°C (-260°F to 608°F) across all four types, making it suitable for cryogenic LNG service through high-temperature process gas applications within a single pilot-operated platform.
Are High Efficiency POSV valves available in corrosion-resistant materials?
Yes. Beyond standard carbon and stainless steel, the series is available in Duplex, Monel, and Hastelloy material options, extending it into sour gas, offshore, and other highly corrosive service environments.
Is Seven Star LLC an experienced supply partner for LESER products?
Yes. Seven Star LLC is an experienced supplier of LESER safety valves in Oman and the GCC, supplying genuine manufacturer hardware with full certification and technical support.
