ASCO 327 Series Solenoid Valve
Overview
The ASCO 327 series, also identified as the 8327 line, is a direct-acting 3/2-way solenoid valve engineered to switch reliably from zero minimum operating pressure, which sets it apart from indirect or servo-assisted valve designs that require a minimum differential pressure to shift. Its balanced poppet construction permits high flow rates at comparatively low coil power levels, and PTFE rider rings combined with graphite-filled seals reduce internal friction and eliminate sticking across long duty cycles, giving the valve exceptional mechanical service life in continuous industrial piloting duty. This combination of zero-pressure operation and high flow capacity has made the ASCO 327 a standard specification for process valve piloting applications across power generation, refining and chemical processing plant worldwide.
As the official authorized partner and exclusive regional representative for ASCO, Seven Star LLC proudly supplies the 327 series solenoid valve range to power plants, refineries and process facilities across Oman and the wider GCC. Industrial sites in Muscat and the Sohar and Salalah economic zones depend on direct-acting pilot valves that switch instantly and reliably regardless of upstream pressure conditions, and the ASCO 327’s zero minimum operating pressure characteristic makes it a dependable choice wherever a process cannot tolerate a delayed or unreliable pilot signal.
Operating Principle
The ASCO 327 is a direct-acting, 3/2-way solenoid valve: energizing the coil lifts a balanced poppet directly off its seat against the full line pressure, opening a path between the supply and outlet ports while isolating the exhaust port, and de-energizing the coil returns the poppet to its normal position by spring force, connecting the outlet to exhaust. Because actuation is purely electromagnetic rather than relying on a pressure differential across a diaphragm or pilot piston, the valve switches predictably even at zero or near-zero line pressure, which is the defining advantage of direct-acting poppet design over indirect or piloted valve architectures in low-pressure or intermittent-pressure piloting circuits.
The balanced poppet geometry equalizes pressure forces across the moving element, so the coil only needs to overcome spring force and friction rather than full line pressure acting on an unbalanced disc, which is what allows the 327 to deliver comparatively high flow at power levels as low as 0.5 W on reduced-power variants up to 11.2 W on standard coils. PTFE rider rings guide the poppet without metal-to-metal contact, and graphite-filled seals maintain a stable friction coefficient across thousands of switching cycles, so the valve does not exhibit the sticking or drift in switching time that plain elastomer seals can develop under continuous industrial duty.
Engineering Design of the ASCO 327
The ASCO 327 is available in brass, stainless steel and aluminum body materials to suit different media compatibility and corrosion requirements, with pipe and port sizes from 1/4″ to 1/2″ NPTF covering orifice sizes from 1/4″ up to 12 mm. Seal material options include NBR, FKM/FPM, VMQ and (F)VMQ compounds, allowing the valve to be specified for compressed air, inert gas, water and light-oil service across a broad ambient and fluid temperature range. Coil insulation is rated Class H for 5.7 mm coil frames and Class F for 12 mm coil frames, giving the valve thermal margin for continuous-duty solenoid operation in hot plant environments.
Certification options extend the 327 series into safety-instrumented and hazardous-area applications: valves are available with ATEX Zone 1/21 explosion-proof and flameproof ratings, and the design is certified to IEC 61508 with SIL-capable variants for use in safety instrumented systems piloting emergency shutdown and process safety valves. This certification breadth is what makes the ASCO 327 a common specification not just for general pneumatic piloting but for safety-critical shutdown valve actuation in refining and petrochemical process design.

Industrial Applications
The ASCO 327 solenoid valve is specified across power generation plant, refineries and chemical processing facilities for process valve piloting, actuator control, and safety instrumented shutdown valve actuation wherever a fast, pressure-independent pilot signal is required. In Oman, the valve family is a natural fit for power generation and desalination plant along the coast, refining and petrochemical operations, and general industrial facilities in the Sohar and Salalah economic zones where continuous, high-cycle solenoid piloting duty is standard across process control and safety systems.
As the officially authorized partner for ASCO, Seven Star LLC distributes the 327 series solenoid valve range to EPC contractors, panel builders and plant maintenance teams throughout Oman and the GCC, supplying both standard process piloting variants and SIL-capable, ATEX-certified units for safety instrumented systems. The valve’s broad body-material and seal-material matrix also makes it a practical single-family specification across mixed-media plant, reducing the number of distinct valve types a maintenance team needs to stock and support.
