Isotech Europa 4520 Isocal-6 Dry Block Temperature Calibrator
Overview
The Isotech Europa 4520 is a member of the Isocal-6 family of multifunctional temperature calibrators, engineered to calibrate temperature sensors and probes across a −45°C to 140°C range with outstanding stability and uniformity. Available in Basic, Site, and Advanced configurations, the Europa 4520 serves as the working reference standard for calibration laboratories, instrumentation workshops, and on-site technicians who need traceable, repeatable temperature references for thermocouples, RTDs, and thermistors.
Seven Star LLC supplies the Europa 4520 as an authorized partner of Isotech, supporting calibration laboratories, oil and gas operators, and quality assurance departments across Muscat, Sohar, Salalah, and the wider Sultanate of Oman. Genuine Isotech units, together with factory-traceable calibration certificates and accessory support, are available through Seven Star LLC for both laboratory and field calibration programs across the GCC.
Measurement and Operating Principle
The Europa 4520 operates as a dry block calibrator by default: a metal heating/cooling block with a 35 x 160mm calibration volume houses removable insert wells sized to accept reference and test sensors side by side. Electrical heating and thermoelectric or mechanical cooling elements bring the block to a stable, uniform set-point temperature, against which the unit under test is compared. With accessory conversion kits, the same instrument becomes a stirred liquid bath, a blackbody radiation source for infrared thermometer calibration, a surface sensor calibrator, or – using ITS-90 fixed-point cells such as gallium melt or water triple point – a primary-standard fixed-point system with uncertainties as low as 0.0005°C (0.5mK).
Stability is specified at ±0.03°C for the Basic and Site models and ±0.01°C for the Advanced model, with radial uniformity between wells as tight as <0.008°C in dry block mode. The Site model adds a single-channel indicator for a reference probe, while the Advanced model includes a three-channel indicator for simultaneous reference and unit-under-test readings, automatic temperature cycling, data logging, and networked control via I-Cal Easy LOG software over Ethernet or USB.
Engineering Design of the Isotech Europa 4520
The Europa 4520 is built into a rugged, portable enclosure with an integrated carry handle, designed for both bench-top laboratory use and field deployment to plant and process areas. The heating/cooling core reaches 140°C from −30°C in approximately 15 minutes and cools from 140°C to 0°C in a similar timeframe, minimizing downtime between calibration points during multi-sensor batch calibration runs. Interchangeable inserts, including the standard insert with 4.5mm, 6.4mm, 8mm, and 9.5mm pockets, allow the same instrument to accommodate a wide range of probe diameters without dedicated tooling.
Because the Europa 4520’s design isolates the calibrator’s own accuracy from the reference indicator and sensor in Site and Advanced configurations, re-calibration and traceability are managed through the indicator and reference probe rather than the whole thermal block, simplifying long-term metrological upkeep. The Advanced model’s built-in web server and Ethernet interface allow remote monitoring and automated logging during extended stability or uncertainty studies, a feature valued by accredited calibration laboratories operating under ISO/IEC 17025.
Power consumption on the Isotech Europa 4520 is rated at 300 W from a 115 V or 230 V AC 50/60 Hz supply, and the complete unit measures 384 mm high including carry handle by 212 mm wide by 312 mm deep at a transportable 14 kg – dimensions chosen to suit a calibration bench as readily as a field service case. The standard insert supplied with the unit provides six pockets – two at 4.5 mm, two at 6.4 mm, one at 8.0 mm, and one at 9.5 mm diameter, each 157 mm deep – with three alternative insert configurations available to match less common probe diameters, and axial uniformity over the lower 40 mm of the well is held to better than 0.040°C in dry block mode, complementing the radial uniformity figure already noted.
Display resolution differs by model tier: the Advanced Europa 4520 resolves temperature to 0.001°C across its full working range, while the Basic and Site models display to 0.01°C between -19.99°C and 99.99°C and to 0.1°C outside that band. The Basic model provides digital block-temperature readout only; the Site model adds an independent single-channel reference indicator for comparison calibration; and the Advanced model steps up to simultaneous dual-channel reference and unit-under-test inputs with automatic cycling, on-board data logging, and a color display, letting a calibration laboratory select the configuration that matches its accreditation and throughput requirements without paying for capability it does not need.
