Overview

The Industrie Technik DB-I4D/02/008-S1 (often written Industrie Technik DB-14D/02/008-S1) is listed as the Slave housing used with the Industrie Technik DB-I4D/02/004 digital thermoregulator with 8 relays. In this two-part system the Master unit holds all parameters, reads the NTC temperature sensor and drives the first 4 relays. The Slave has no keypad. It switches the other 4 relays according to the Master’s settings and shows the status of the serial link between the two units.

If the serial connection to the Master is lost, the Slave keeps its 4 outputs de-energised and shows an error message. The Slave therefore cannot work as a stand-alone thermostat and must be installed and commissioned with a compatible DB-I4D Master unit.

Industrie Technik DB-I4D/02/008-S1 System Compatibility

The DB-I4D/02/008-S1 is the second housing of the DB-I4D/02/004 eight-stage controller and is shown in the manufacturer wiring diagram together with the DB-I4D/02/004-M Master. It is not one of the stand-alone four-stage models of the same family (DB-I4D/02/001 for temperature, /002 for humidity, /003 for temperature and humidity); only the /004 version has the serial channel that the Slave needs.

In the system, the Master measures the NTC 10K sensor, holds every parameter and switches stages 1 to 4. The Slave switches stages 5 to 8. The parameters for the Slave relays are entered on the Master keypad in the same way as for relays 1 to 4, so each Slave relay can be a heating stage, a cooling stage or an alarm output.

While the setpoint or parameters are being edited on the Master, the Slave shows a status text on its display, and during parameter editing all relays on both housings are de-energised.

Industrie Technik DB-I4D/02/008-S1 Installation and Wiring Notes

The Slave has the same terminal layout as the Master: terminals 6 (TXD), 7 (RXD) and 8 (serial ground) form the serial port, the four changeover relays are on terminals 10 to 22, and the 230 V AC supply goes to terminals 23 and 24. No temperature sensor is connected to the Slave.

Work on the unit must be done with the supply and the external loads switched off. After wiring, tighten the cover screws and close the cable glands so that the IP65 protection is maintained. Each housing measures 200 × 120 × 75 mm and has M16 gland entries.

How the Industrie Technik DB-14D/02/008-S1 Master/Slave System Works

The DB-I4D thermoregulator is split into two housings so that eight relay outputs can be controlled from a single temperature measurement without crowding one enclosure. The Master reads the NTC probe, runs the control logic and decides the state of every output. It drives relays 1 to 4 directly and sends the commands for relays 5 to 8 over the serial link to the Industrie Technik DB-14D/02/008-S1 Slave. Because the Slave has no keypad and stores no parameters of its own, the whole system is configured in one place, which reduces the risk of two units holding conflicting set points.

The fail-safe behaviour is an important design point: when the serial link is interrupted, the Slave de-energises its four outputs and shows an error. When planning the installation, decide which loads should be connected to the Slave outputs on the basis of this behaviour, so that the loss of communication leads the process to a safe state rather than leaving a heater or pump running without control.

Maintenance and Troubleshooting Tips

• If the Slave shows a communication error, check the serial cable, its terminations and the cable route away from power wiring before replacing either unit.
• Confirm the relay contact loads stay within the published 10 A resistive rating; inductive loads such as contactor coils or motors should be switched through an interposing contactor.
• Keep the IP65 enclosure gaskets and cable glands in good condition, especially in humid or dusty plant rooms common in coastal Oman.
