Brand:

Veeder-Root Mag Plus In-Tank Probe for Gasoline and Diesel

Description

Stainless steel magnetostrictive probe for gasoline, diesel and water level

The Veeder-Root stainless steel Mag Plus in-tank probe for gasoline and retail diesel measures product level, water level and temperature in underground (UST) and aboveground (AST) storage tanks. Its stainless steel shaft carries a high-grade polymer (HGP) canister and is used with float installation kits that set whether the probe reads gasoline, diesel or a phase-separating fuel blend.

Three versions are offered: 0846397-1xx with water detection and 0.1 GPH static testing capability, 0846397-2xx with water detection and 0.2 GPH testing capability, and 0846397-3xx with water detection for inventory only, without leak detection. The probes connect to Veeder-Root TLS consoles and are used for inventory, delivery reconciliation and, on the leak-detection versions, tank tightness tests on USTs.

Choosing the float kit and probe version

The float kit is part of the product choice. A phase separation float kit (4 in) is used for gasoline blends that can separate; the gasoline kit uses a 2 in float; the diesel kits use 4 in or 2 in floats. The datasheet footnotes that blends marked with an asterisk are compatible with the phase separation float kit, and aviation gas is compatible only with the diesel float kit. Tank testing is approved for B6 to B20 biodiesel meeting ASTM D7467 and B100 meeting ASTM D6751.

The minimum measurement figures show how close to the tank bottom or to the water level the probe can read, which matters for low-level alarms and delivery reconciliation.

What to confirm before ordering

  • Whether 0.1 GPH or 0.2 GPH testing is needed or inventory only, which sets the 0846397-1xx, -2xx or -3xx number.
  • Tank type: static tank testing and BIR are for underground tanks only.
  • Probe length, determined by tank depth and riser, and the float kit for the fuel.
  • The console and its probe interface module, using the compatibility table in the datasheet.

How the MAGPLUS-GAS-DSL probe works

A float on the probe shaft carries a magnet. A pulse sent along the shaft meets the magnetic field at the float and returns. The time of the return tells the position of the float, and so the level of the fuel. A second float reads the water level.
