Veeder-Root Mag Plus In-Tank Probe for Jet Fuel

Description

Magnetostrictive probe for jet fuel inventory and water detection

The Veeder-Root stainless steel Mag Plus in-tank probe for jet fuel monitors product level, water level and temperature in jet fuel tanks, both underground and aboveground. The datasheet lists two approved products, jet fuel JP8 and JP10, and the probe is fitted with a diesel float kit for JP8 or a heavy-oil float kit for JP10.

Like the gasoline and diesel version, it is built on a stainless steel shaft with a high-grade polymer canister and is ordered as 0846397-1xx (water detection with 0.1 GPH testing capability), 0846397-2xx (water detection with 0.2 GPH testing capability) or 0846397-3xx (water detection, inventory only). Static tank testing and BIR apply to underground tanks only; for aboveground tanks the probe is an inventory device.

Where this probe fits

Jet fuel is monitored in storage at airports and depots as well as at private fuel farms. Use this version rather than the gasoline and diesel probe when the product is JP8 or JP10 so that the float kit matches the density of the fuel. The probe provides water detection, which helps to spot contamination in a fuel that must stay dry, and the five-point temperature measurement supports corrected inventory.

The datasheet does not list further jet fuel grades, so confirm the fuel grade with Veeder-Root through the RFQ if your product is not JP8 or JP10.

What to confirm before ordering

  • Fuel grade (JP8 or JP10) to choose the diesel or heavy-oil float kit.
  • UST or AST service, because testing and BIR options are UST only.
  • Probe length from tank depth and riser details, and cable length.
  • Console and interface module from the compatibility table.

How the Veeder-Root MAGPLUS-JET probe works

The Mag Plus probe uses a magnetostrictive principle. A stainless steel shaft carries a wire, and floats with magnets ride on the shaft at the fuel surface and at the water surface. The electronics send a pulse along the wire and time the return signal from each magnet, which gives the position of each float. From these, the console works out fuel volume, water depth and a five-point temperature profile. The jet fuel version carries a diesel float kit for JP8 or a heavy-oil float kit for JP10.

Where the Veeder-Root MAGPLUS-JET is used

  • Airport fuel farms
  • Jet fuel depots
  • Aboveground storage tanks
  • Underground storage tanks
  • Private fuel facilities

Selection checklist for the Veeder-Root MAGPLUS-JET

  • Fuel grade, JP8 or JP10
  • Water detection with 0.1 or 0.2 GPH, or inventory only
  • Float kit size, 2 inch or 4 inch
  • Probe length between 1.2 and 3.66 m
  • Cable length of 1.5 or 3.05 m
  • Underground or aboveground tank
  • Compatible console
  • Ambient range from minus 40 to 50 degrees C

Installation, commissioning and maintenance notes for the MAGPLUS-JET

Measure the tank depth and order a probe length to suit. Fit the correct float kit for the fuel. Lower the probe through the riser, set it at the right height, and seal the riser cap. Run the cable to the console in a protected conduit. Enter the probe data and the tank chart in the console, and check the readings against a manual dip.

About brand

Veeder-Root is a fuel management specialist based in Simsbury, Connecticut, USA, founded in 1866 and part of Vontier. It is best known for TLS automatic tank gauges, magnetostrictive in-tank probes and leak detection sensors for fuel storage.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list Veeder-Root consoles, probes and sensors from the maker's published datasheets for fuel stations, depots and airports in Oman and the GCC.

Veeder-Root product series

Tank gauge consoles include the TLS4 and the non-expandable TLS4B, the TLS-450PLUS and the legacy TLS-350PLUS. Mag Plus in-tank probes are offered for gasoline and diesel, jet fuel, LPG and light and heavy oil, and Mag-FLEX probes cover tall tanks. Leak detection sensors include the discriminating containment sump sensor 0794380-352 and the interstitial sensor 0794390-420 for double-wall steel tanks. The EMR4 electronic meter register is used on fuel delivery trucks.
