Safco Italia S111 Lined Aluminized Hood with Braces and Visor

Description

An integral lined hood for use over a full-face mask

The Safco Italia S111 is an integral lined hood made of aluminized fabric. In the Safal Green version the hood is Safal Green 340 g (50 % para-aramid, 50 % Panox) insulated with Oxistop 325 g; the Safal Evo version is 460 g (70 % para-aramid, 30 % Twaron) with a 100 % FR cotton lining.

It is made to be worn with a full-face mask and dispensing unit. A replaceable panoramic visor in golden or transparent 4 mm polycarbonate, certified EN 166 and EN 136 by the maker, gives the field of view, and an internal adjustable helmet in accordance with EN 397 is fitted. Elastic underarm braces with adjustable Velcro F.R. keep the hood in place.

The replaceable SV200 visor

The visor is a spare part sold separately under code SV200: a curved 4 mm polycarbonate visor measuring 175 x 280 mm, in transparent (80.0204.039) or gold mirrored (80.0204.040) finish. The gold version is listed with IR protection degree 4-5 under EN 171. The SV200 is listed as a spare for the S100, S101, S111 and S203 hoods.

Related hoods

The S101 is a lined hood without suspenders and the S100 is unlined; the S111 adds braces, which spread the weight and keep the hood stable under the mask. The S111 is the hood used with the lined ST502 proximity suit. General engineering note (not from the sheet): a hood is one element of a protective system; the full system should be assessed together. See Head, Eye and Face Protection.

The S111 is the version with braces, intended for use with a full-face mask and dispensing unit. When ordering, state the fabric, visor finish and the breathing apparatus model in use, so that the fit with the mask can be confirmed. The sheet gives one size and does not list a weight.

The 4 mm visor is certified by the maker to EN 166 and EN 136 as stated on the sheet; the SV200 spare has the dimensions 175 x 280 x 4 mm. Order a spare visor with the hood if the hood will be used in dusty or abrasive conditions, since a scratched visor reduces the field of view.

What the standards on the hood cover

Each standard referred to on the sheet covers a different part of the hood. EN 166 is the general standard for personal eye protection, and EN 136 covers full-face masks for respiratory protective devices; the visor is stated to meet both. EN 397 is the standard for industrial safety helmets, which applies to the internal adjustable helmet. EN 171 covers infrared filters, which is why the gold mirrored SV200 visor carries an IR protection degree of 4-5. The whole hood is rated A1-B2-C4-D3-E3-F2 to EN ISO 11612, so its radiant heat level C4 is the highest on that scale.

Golden or transparent visor

General engineering note (not from the sheet): a gold mirrored visor reflects infrared radiation and reduces glare when working close to flames or open furnaces, but it darkens the view in smoke or poor light. A transparent visor gives better vision in low light but lets more radiant heat reach the face. Many fire teams keep both: gold for proximity work at fires and furnaces, transparent for rescue or inspection tasks. Because the SV200 visor is a separate spare (transparent 80.0204.039, gold 80.0204.040), it is worth ordering spares with the hood.

Donning with breathing apparatus

General engineering note (not from the sheet): the S111 is designed to be worn over a full-face mask and dispensing unit, so the usual sequence is breathing apparatus first, mask on and checked, then the hood with the braces under the arms, then helmet adjustment. Check the field of view and that the hood does not press on the mask seal or the demand valve. Practise the sequence with the specific breathing apparatus model in use, because mask shapes differ.

Care and storage

General engineering note (not from the sheet): clean the visor with water and a soft cloth, never with solvents, and replace it when scratched or crazed. Store the hood with the suit, away from direct sunlight and heat.

For a quotation, state the fabric version (code 80.0106.031 or 80.0106.155), the visor finish, the number of spare SV200 visors and the breathing apparatus model.

The rest of the proximity set

The S111 is usually ordered with the other parts of an aluminized proximity ensemble: the jacket and trousers of the suit, aluminized gloves such as the S50 or S40, and lined over-boots such as the S151. Choosing the same fabric version for every piece keeps the radiant heat protection consistent from head to foot. Spare SV200 visors in both finishes are the most common add-on, since visors are scratched during training long before the hood fabric is worn. Teams with several breathing apparatus models should check hood fit with each one.

Documents and quotation

The manufacturer sheet (English) is attached. Please state the fabric version, the visor finish and the quantity so the quotation lists the right codes. Please also include the delivery location and quantity, and tell us whether you need the hood only or a complete suit set, so that the quotation lists the matching gloves and over-boots from the same fabric range.
