Rotork GTS Range Stainless Steel Pneumatic Valve Actuator

Description

Rotork GTS Range stainless steel rack and pinion actuators

The Rotork GTS Range is the stainless steel member of the GT family of pneumatic rack and pinion actuators. The body and end caps are electro-polished AISI 316L stainless steel and the pinion is also 316L, with screws in A4 stainless steel. That makes the actuator suited to the harsh, corrosive surroundings of petrochemical, marine and offshore installations, as well as the sanitary requirements of pharmaceutical and food and beverage plants where a smooth, cleanable surface matters. Rotork lists seven body sizes covering torque from 39 to 1,150 Nm, in double-acting and spring-return versions with travel stops in both directions.

The GTS uses the same basic working principle as the GT Range but trades the anodised aluminium body for stainless steel, and adds a smaller size list: 52, 63, 75, 83, 110, 127 and 160. For higher volume, low-cost duty on a mild site, the aluminium GT or GTE ranges remain the economical choice, and our site lists those as separate pages.

How the GTS works and how to read its torque tables

The operating principle is that of every rack and pinion actuator: two pistons with racks drive a pinion through 90 degrees. Double-acting versions are pressurised in both directions, spring-return versions use stacked springs for a fail-safe direction. The flyer gives double-acting output for 2 to 10 bar. At 10 bar the figures are 39.0 Nm for size 52, 58.0 Nm for 63, 100 Nm for 75, 145 Nm for 83, 290 Nm for 110, 580 Nm for 127 and 1,150 Nm for 160.

For spring-return units, a separate table lists spring torque and air torque at 0 and 90 degrees for each spring count of 6, 8, 10 or 12 springs on the smaller sizes. A selection must check that the spring torque at the end of stroke exceeds the valve seating torque, while the pneumatic torque at the lowest available pressure still exceeds the valve breakaway torque, with margin.

Dimensions, mounting and weights

The flyer includes a dimension table. Valve flange sizes are F03 and F05 for size 52, F05 and F07 for sizes 63, 75 and 83, F07 and F10 for sizes 110 and 127, and F10 and F12 for size 160. Weights for double-acting units run from 2.6 kg for size 52 to 32 kg for size 160; spring-return versions are slightly heavier, from 2.7 kg to 36 kg. The air displacement for double-acting units ranges from 0.25 dm3 for size 52 to 7.0 dm3 for size 160, which helps with air consumption and stroke-time calculations.

Size ISO flange Double-acting weight (kg) DA torque at 10 bar (Nm)
52 F03/F05 2.6 39.0
63 F05/F07 3.5 58.0
75 F05/F07 4.8 100
83 F05/F07 5.6 145
110 F07/F10 11 290
127 F07/F10 18 580
160 F10/F12 32 1,150

Selection and ordering checklist for the GTS Range

  • Valve torque, safety factor and service (on/off or modulating).
  • Double-acting or spring-return, and the number of springs.
  • Supply pressure at the actuator and air quality.
  • Ambient temperature, including high-temperature seals if above 70 degrees C.
  • ISO 5211 flange size and drive, matching the valve.
  • Corrosive atmosphere, washdown or sanitary requirement.
  • Stainless steel accessories if a fully stainless package is wanted.

Installation, commissioning and maintenance

Install the GTS using stainless or coated mounting hardware to avoid bimetallic corrosion, and match the position indicator to the valve before coupling. Connect air through the NAMUR or port connection; filtered air is required per the supply specification. Set travel stops at both directions, which the GTS provides with plus or minus 5 degrees adjustment. The GT and GTS installation and maintenance manual covers spring handling and seal replacement.

Service is simple: periodic cycling, inspection of seals, bearings and spring condition, and use of the specified lubricant. For washdown or marine service, rinse salt from the body and check that cable glands and exhaust breathers are intact. Always depressurise before service, and be careful with spring-return units that contain loaded springs.

Typical applications in Oman and the GCC

Stainless actuators earn their place on seawater and brine butterfly valves, chemical injection skids, offshore platforms and port facilities, desalination plants, and pharmaceutical and food processing sites in the Gulf. Where salty air and humidity attack aluminium and painted surfaces, the 316L body, pinion and fasteners keep corrosion down, and where temperatures reach the upper standard limit, high-temperature seals up to 160 °C extend the use to hot-service valves.

Related Rotork pneumatic actuators

The GT Range is the aluminium body counterpart with 21 sizes and torque up to 15,300 Nm, and the GTE Range is a cost-optimised aluminium series from 2 to 6,300 Nm. Where very high torque or a scotch yoke is needed, our site also lists the Rotork GP/GH scotch yoke actuators.

About brand

Rotork is a British flow control company best known for electric valve actuators. Jeremy Fry founded Rotork Engineering Company in Bath in 1957, the year its first actuator, the 100A, went on sale, and the group is still headquartered in Bath and listed on the London Stock Exchange. Today Rotork makes electric, pneumatic, hydraulic and electro-hydraulic actuators, gearboxes, precision regulators and valve positioners.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier listing Rotork actuators, Rotork Fairchild regulators, YTC positioners and spare parts for buyers in Oman and the GCC. Replacement units are matched from the actuator nameplate and wiring diagram number.

Where Rotork equipment is used

Rotork actuators are common on oil and gas pipelines and terminals, refineries and gas plants, water and wastewater networks, desalination plants and power stations. Electric IQ actuators handle isolation valves on long pipelines and water mains, often networked over Rotork Pakscan, Modbus or another fieldbus. Skilmatic and scotch yoke actuators cover emergency shutdown valves, and Fairchild regulators and YTC positioners sit on pneumatic control valves throughout process plants.

Ordering Rotork actuators and spare parts: what we need

Send photos of the actuator nameplate with the model, serial number and wiring diagram number; the wiring diagram is usually inside the terminal cover. Rotork can identify the original build, including options and control interface, from the serial number. For a new application add the valve type and size, required torque or thrust, operating time, mounting flange (ISO 5210 or ISO 5211), power supply, control signal or network protocol, fail-safe requirement and hazardous-area marking. For regulators and positioners send the full model code and the pressure or signal ranges.

FAQ

Questions about the Rotork GTS Range Stainless Steel Pneumatic Valve

Answers from our engineering team on installation, compatibility and integration.

01What distinguishes the GTS from the GT Range?
The GTS has a body, end caps and pinion in electro-polished 316L stainless steel for harsh, marine and sanitary environments. The GT uses an anodised aluminium body with many more sizes and options.
02What torque does the GTS provide?
The flyer gives 39 to 1,150 Nm, depending on size and supply pressure from 2 to 10 bar. Seven body sizes from 52 to 160 are available.
03Is it available as spring-return?
Yes. Both double-acting and single-acting spring-return versions are offered, with spring counts such as 6, 8, 10 or 12 shown in the torque tables for the smaller sizes.
04What temperature can it handle?
The standard range is -50 to +70 degrees C. A high-temperature build with Viton seals and IXEF bearings reaches +160 degrees C, with a lower limit of -15 degrees C in that configuration.
05Which mounting interfaces are used?
The mechanical interfaces are ISO 5211, NAMUR VDI/VDE 3845 and BSI EN 15714-3-4, so standard valves and accessories can be mounted directly.
