Brand:

Pulsar dBR8 V-Band Radar Level Transducer

Description

A V-band radar transducer for wet wells, sumps and open channels

The Pulsar dBR8 is a non-contacting radar transducer for level, volume and flow measurement and for pump control. The dBR range has two versions, the dBR8 with an 8 m range and the dBR16 with a 16 m range, and both work with Pulsar controllers; they can also be retrofitted to existing Pulsar controllers in the field. The sensor works at V-band with an 8 degree beam (3 degrees effective with DATEM processing), a compact 90 mm by 130 mm body and a nominal weight of 1.1 kg.

Radar is commonly chosen over ultrasonic where foam, vapour, temperature changes or a congested wet well disturb the echo.

dBR8 or dBR16

Pick the version by the total distance from the sensor to the lowest level to be measured, including any blanking zone. The 8 m dBR8 covers most pump stations, sumps and tanks; the dBR16 suits deep chambers and tall tanks. The 77 mm blanking distance is measured from the drip shield, so leave that clearance above the highest level. A narrow 8 degree beam still needs a clear path to the surface, and the sensor should be fitted away from walls and inlet streams.

Ordering notes

The radar connects to a Pulsar controller by cable, so specify the controller type, cable length (up to 500 m separation), thread type or flange, and the area classification. The ATEX Zone 0 version is intrinsically safe and needs a suitable barrier or controller; the encapsulated mb marking applies to Zones 1 and 2. Confirm which approval and which controller are being used before ordering.

About brand

Pulsar Measurement designs, manufactures and supports flow and level measurement for water, wastewater and industrial applications. The company has operated since 1997, is based in Malvern in the United Kingdom with North American headquarters in Largo, Florida, and is part of the TASI Measurement group. Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat and lists its radar and ultrasonic level sensors and open-channel flow sensors.

Pulsar product range

The range includes ultrasonic transducers, radar sensors, controllers such as Ultra and Ultimate, and open-channel flow instruments such as MicroFlow and FlowCERT. Pulsar develops its patented echo-processing technologies in-house, and several products carry ATEX, IECEx or FM hazardous-area approvals. Typical jobs are wet wells, sumps, storage tanks, pumping stations and open channels at treatment works.

Ordering level and flow instruments

Give the vessel or channel dimensions, the measured medium, the required range and the area classification. For flow, state the channel shape and width. We match the sensor, controller and cable length against the datasheets before quoting.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between dBR8 and dBR16?
The dBR8 measures up to 8 m (26.2 ft) and the dBR16 up to 16 m (52.5 ft); other specifications in the datasheet are common to both.
What accuracy does the dBR8 have?
The datasheet gives 2 mm accuracy, 1 mm repeatability and 1 mm resolution.
What is the near blanking distance?
77 mm (3.03 in) measured from the drip shield.
Which controllers does it work with?
Pulsar states the dBR transducers are compatible with all Pulsar controllers and can be retrofitted to existing ones.
What process pressure and temperature apply?
-1 to +4 bar and -20 to +80 C for the electronics, with an IP68/NEMA 6P enclosure.
