Span gas for analyzers and gas detectors
A span gas has a known concentration of the measured component, here 2% hydrogen, in a balance gas. The analyzer or detector is exposed to it and adjusted to read that value. What does 2% hydrogen span gas mean?
The cylinder holds a mixture in which hydrogen makes up 2% by volume and a balance gas makes up the rest. Hydrogen detectors and analyzers are checked and adjusted against it. Which balance gas you need depends on the sensor principle, so check the instrument manual and state the balance gas clearly in the inquiry.
Which documents come with a calibration gas cylinder?
The gas producer issues a certificate for the mixture that states the measured concentration, the uncertainty or tolerance, the cylinder number and the expiry date, together with a safety data sheet. If your procedure calls for a particular traceability or accreditation level, say so when asking for a quotation, because it decides the product grade.
What fittings do I need for a 34 liter cylinder?
Small non-refillable cylinders use their own valve thread, and the regulator must match it. Fixed-flow regulators are common for detector bump tests and calibration. Send the cylinder type or a photo of the valve and the flow rate your instrument needs, and we check the regulator against the producer's documentation.
