Lumel ND20 221100M1 Power Network Meter, RS-485

Description

The Lumel ND20 221100M1 is a panel-mounted network parameter meter that measures voltage, current, power, energy, frequency and harmonic distortion in single-phase and in balanced or unbalanced three-phase 3- or 4-wire systems. This code is the standard 85 to 253 V a.c. or 90 to 300 V d.c. supply version with one analog output and an RS-485 Modbus port.

Where the ND20 is used in a switchboard

A 96 x 96 mm instrument of this kind sits on the door of a motor control centre, a generator set panel, a capacitor bank cabinet or a sub-distribution board and gives the operator one place to read phase currents, voltages, kW, kvar and power factor. The data sheet shows the ND20 reading through current transformers and, if needed, voltage transformers, and passing the values to a master system by RS-485 Modbus. Because the display shows values already multiplied by the programmed transformer ratios (voltage ratio 0.1 to 4600.0, current ratio 1 to 10000), the panel reads in primary quantities and not in secondary amps.

Key features from the data sheet

  • Measurement of network parameters in 2-, 3- or 4-wire balanced and unbalanced systems.
  • High accuracy class: 0.2% of range on current, L-N voltage and frequency (0.2% of measured value).
  • Voltage and current harmonics, selectable, plus THD factors for both.
  • Backlit LCD 3.5 inch monochrome screen with configurable display pages.
  • IP65 protection from the front side.
  • One 0/4 to 20 mA analog output, a relay, a passive OC pulse output and RS-485 MODBUS RTU.

Selection and ordering guide

Two main codes appear in the data sheet. ND20 221100M1 has current input 1 A / 5 A (X/1 A, X/5 A), voltage input 3 x 57.7/100 V, 3 x 69.3/120 V or 3 x 230/400 V, one 0/4 to 20 mA analog output, RS-485 and an 85 to 253 V a.c./d.c. supply, with bilingual Polish/English papers and a test certificate. ND20 221200M1 repeats the meter for a 20 to 40 V a.c./d.c. supply. Replacing the last character with the digit 2 (for example ND20 221100M2) adds a paid calibration certificate.

Installation and operation notes from the manual

The manual describes fixing the meter in a panel with four holders after cutting a 92.5 x 92.5 mm opening in a panel not thicker than 15 mm. Screw terminals take wires up to 2.5 mm2, and the manual asks for a switch or circuit breaker near the meter in the building installation. Connections cover direct, semi-indirect and indirect single-phase measurement and 3-wire and 4-wire three-phase measurement with three current transformers and two or three voltage transformers. Configuration is by the front keys or the free eCon software over RS-485.

Applications in GCC power and process plants

In Oman and the Gulf the ND20 fits switchboards for pump stations, desalination and water treatment, utility rooms, camps and commercial buildings. The rated ambient is -25 to 70 degrees C around the meter, so hot closed kiosks need engineering checks.
