Brand:

Iskra iMC770 Class A Power Quality Analyzer, EN 50160

Description

iMC770 is the Iskra power quality analyzer with class A measuring accuracy under EN 61000-4-30 and automatic evaluation of the supply voltage against EN 50160. It issues weekly PQ reports, records flicker, harmonics, inter-harmonics and signalling voltage, and keeps time-stamped details whenever a parameter leaves its limit line.

From instantaneous values to weekly compliance reports

EN 50160 describes the voltage characteristics of public distribution networks, and the data sheet lists the phenomena the analyzer tracks: frequency variations, voltage variations, unbalance, rapid voltage changes, flicker, dips, interruptions and swells, harmonics, inter-harmonics and signalling voltage. Default limits follow the standard, but the user can alter them to the immunity of the equipment in the plant.

The 8 MB recorder has four measurement partitions, an alarm partition, a PQ report partition and a partition for PQ report details. Inter-harmonics can be recorded for up to ten selected orders in a range to 63.5. The iMC770 sits at the point of common coupling of an industrial site, or on a medium or low voltage feeder, to detect disturbances caused by other consumers.

Features stated in the data sheet

  • Class A (0.1 %) accuracy per EN 61000-4-30; more than 140 quantities including flicker Pi, Pst and Plt, K-factor and crest factor.
  • Voltage and current auto-ranging to 1000 VTRMS and 12.5 A at a 32 kHz sampling rate.
  • Three independent communication ports, NTP support and universal supply.
  • Alarms: 32 in four groups, stored with time stamp in the internal memory.

Ordering options

Seven code letters follow iMC770: current connection (T or C), RTC backup (C supercap or B battery), auxiliary supply (U universal, D 110 V, E 230 V, F 400 V AC), module slots 1/2 and 3/4, COM1 (T terminal, R DB9, E Ethernet and USB) and nominal frequency. Module options include analogue in or out, pulse, relay, bistable, status, digital and tariff inputs, and COM2 as RS232, RS485 or an EX104 extender.

Connection type, voltage range and the PQ limit lines are programmable and therefore not part of the code.

Installation and use

Install in a panel only. The manual advises a 6 A maximum fuse on voltage inputs, a labelled disconnect device for the auxiliary supply and an auxiliary supply inrush of up to 20 A for under 1 ms. Keep voltage wiring away from current transformers.

Real-time clock accuracy is central to a class A analyzer: use a dedicated network for NTP, because the data sheet warns that public-network synchronisation is only good to tens of milliseconds.

Applications

General engineering note: power quality records support utility negotiations, warranty claims on equipment damaged by sags and swells, and investigations into unexplained production stoppages. In a gas-turbine or generator-fed plant, harmonic and flicker records show how changing load or on-site generation affects the supply.

Because weekly reports are generated inside the device, results can be read on site through MiQen without a separate server.

Related Iskra items

The iMC740 and iMC750 give class S metering and recording without full EN 50160 reporting. The iMC784A adds waveform and disturbance recording with an 8 GB memory. See the power meters category for other models.

Power quality monitoring in Oman and the GCC

In the region, class A analyzers are installed at the points where a facility connects to the utility, on feeders to large variable speed drive loads, and in plants with sensitive process control or data centre loads. Harmonics from drives, UPS systems and LED lighting, together with voltage dips caused by faults on the network, are common reasons for permanent monitoring. Oman’s networks run at 50 Hz, so the nominal frequency, voltage and connection type must be set correctly during commissioning, and the time source should be configured so recorded events can be compared with utility and protection relay records.
