Brand:

GESTRA UNA 16 Ball Float Steam Trap PN 40 DN 15-25

Description

A ball float steam trap for large condensate flows

The GESTRA UNA 16 is a carbon steel ball float steam trap in DN 15, 20 and 25 (NPS 1/2, 3/4 and 1 inch). It discharges condensate from steam, other gases and gaseous mixtures through a float-operated control unit with a rolling ball seal, and the manufacturer states that its operation is unaffected by backpressure. The same data sheet covers the cast-iron-cover UNA 14 (PN 25) and the stainless steel UNA 16A, so one page serves the whole compact UNA range. Typical duties are heat exchangers, process heaters, tracing headers and any steam user that needs continuous condensate removal with tight shut-off.

Control unit, flow direction and sibling models

The body can be turned to suit the pipework: the data sheet shows a horizontal pipe version with flow to the left (hl), an optional version with flow to the right (hr) and a vertical version with downward flow (v), and an installed trap can later be converted between the horizontal and vertical positions by rotating the cover and the control unit. The Duplex unit is intended for saturated steam systems, where the temperature-dependent capsule vents air on start-up. Simplex is the choice for cold condensate and distillate, and Simplex R for draining rotating cylinders. The additional cold-water start-up capacity of the Duplex capsule is listed from about 180 kg/h at 1 bar to about 840 kg/h at 22 bar differential.

Model Rating Design Size
UNA 14 PN 25 Ductile iron cover, orifices 4 and 13 bar DN 15 to 25
UNA 16 PN 40 / Class 150 Carbon steel, orifices 4, 13 and 22 bar DN 15 to 25
UNA 16A PN 40 / Class 150 Stainless steel 1.4404 body, orifices 4, 13 and 22 bar DN 15 to 25

Selection and installation notes

Choose the orifice from the real differential pressure across the trap, which is the inlet pressure minus the outlet pressure and falls by roughly 1 bar for every 7 m of lift in the condensate line. The capacity chart in the data sheet gives hot condensate capacity per orifice, and cold water capacity is obtained with a correction factor. For potentially explosive atmospheres the sheet states that the trap has no ignition source of its own, but surface temperature from the fluid and static charge on the installed equipment remain the responsibility of the plant owner. Documents and quotation

The attached six-page GESTRA data sheet 810827 contains the pressure-temperature curves, dimensions and capacity chart. To quote the correct trap, send the steam pressure, back pressure, condensate load, end connection standard, control unit type and whether stainless steel or an inspection certificate is required. Confirm the final configuration against the current manufacturer documents before ordering.

About brand

Steam and condensate equipment has been GESTRA's field since 1902, when the company started in Bremen, Germany. Its steam traps, non-return valves and boiler control electronics are found in boiler houses worldwide. Seven Star LLC lists the GESTRA LRGT 16-1 conductivity transmitter, the NRGT 26-2 level transmitter and UNA series ball float steam traps, and supplies GESTRA boiler control parts, valves and steam trap spares to plants in Oman as an independent supplier.

GESTRA LRGT 16-1 and GESTRA boiler control

The LRGT 16-1 is a conductivity transmitter screwed into the boiler shell or blowdown line. It measures the electrical conductivity of the boiler water, which indicates the dissolved solids content, and sends a 4-20 mA signal to a conductivity controller that operates a continuous blowdown valve. The manufacturer also names condensate and feedwater monitoring as uses. The transmitter belongs with the GESTRA level electrodes, limiters and controllers fitted to steam boilers in the GCC, which is why searches for GESTRA boiler control and GESTRA boiler spare parts often end at this type of component.

Ordering GESTRA parts: what we need

Send the type designation and the data from the name plate: pressure rating, connection thread, measuring length, supply voltage and serial number. Tell us which controller and blowdown valve the transmitter works with, and the boiler pressure.

Frequently Asked Questions

What sizes does the GESTRA UNA 16 come in?
DN 15, 20 and 25 (NPS 1/2, 3/4 and 1 inch).
What is the maximum differential pressure?
It depends on the orifice: 4, 13 or 22 bar for the UNA 16 according to the data sheet.
Does backpressure affect the UNA 16?
The manufacturer states that operation is unaffected by backpressure.
What is the difference between Duplex and Simplex?
Duplex adds a membrane regulator capsule for automatic temperature-dependent venting in saturated steam; Simplex is float control only, suited to cold condensate.
What other models share this data sheet?
The UNA 14 (PN 25) and UNA 16A (stainless steel, PN 40 / Class 150).
