Brand:

GESTRA UNA 45 Ball Float Steam Trap PN 40 DN 15-65

Description

A PN 40 ball float trap with sight-glass and electrode cover options

The GESTRA UNA 45 is a ball float steam trap in six sizes from DN 15 to DN 65 (1/2 to 2 1/2 inch), rated PN 40 and Class 300. It discharges condensate from steam, other gases and gaseous mixtures through a ball float and a rolling-ball sealing unit, and the data sheet states that its operation is unaffected by backpressure. What sets the UNA 45 apart in the range is its cover: besides the standard cover it is offered with a sight-glass cover for watching the condensate level and a cover prepared for GESTRA NRG 16-19 or NRG 16-27 measuring electrodes. The same sheet also covers the UNA 46 (carbon steel cast cover) and UNA 46A (stainless steel).

Options and control unit choices

The data sheet lists a cover without holes, a manual float lifting lever, a manual vent valve on the Duplex unit, a Perbunan rolling ball for DN 15 to 25, an internal strainer, an internal bypass adjustable from the outside, a sight-glass cover rated PN 16 / Class 150 and a Smart ready preparation. Duplex units suit saturated steam, and the manufacturer warns that the capsule must not be exposed to superheated steam above 5 K. Simplex is intended for cold condensate and distillate, and the bypass version for draining rotating cylinders. As with the other UNA traps the body can be rotated between horizontal (hl, hr) and vertical (v) flow after installation.

Selection and installation notes

Match the orifice to the actual differential pressure and the hot-condensate capacity chart in the data sheet. Note that the sight-glass cover has its own lower pressure rating, and the sheet carries notes on glass wear with condensate pH and temperature. For smaller DN 15-25 duties at similar pressure see the

and for very high pressure the

. Other options are listed under steam trap products.

How the GESTRA UNA 45 steam trap works

A steam trap lets condensate out of a steam line and keeps the steam in. Inside the UNA 45 is a hollow ball float. When condensate collects, the float rises and opens the outlet through a rolling-ball sealing unit. When only steam is present, the float sinks and the outlet closes. Because the float follows the condensate level, the trap discharges continuously and is not affected by backpressure.

Where the UNA 45 is used

  • Steam mains and branch lines
  • Heat exchangers and heaters
  • Process equipment using steam
  • Compressed air and gas lines with condensate
  • Rotating cylinders with the internal bypass control unit

Selection checklist for the UNA 45

  • Nominal size from DN 15 to DN 65
  • Orifice size and the differential pressure
  • End connection: flange, screwed, socket-weld or butt-weld
  • Standard, sight-glass or electrode cover
  • Control unit: Duplex, Simplex or bypass
  • Pressure and temperature rating
  • Material of body and cover
  • Weight and space for installation

Installation, commissioning and maintenance notes for the UNA 45

Fit the trap below the point where condensate collects, with the flow arrow in the right direction. Add a strainer ahead of it to keep dirt out of the orifice. Warm the line slowly to avoid water hammer. Check the trap at regular intervals for blow-through or for a blocked outlet. Use the sight-glass cover when you need to see the condensate level.

About brand

Steam and condensate equipment has been GESTRA's field since 1902, when the company started in Bremen, Germany. Its steam traps, non-return valves and boiler control electronics are found in boiler houses worldwide. Seven Star LLC lists the GESTRA LRGT 16-1 conductivity transmitter, the NRGT 26-2 level transmitter and UNA series ball float steam traps, and supplies GESTRA boiler control parts, valves and steam trap spares to plants in Oman as an independent supplier.

GESTRA LRGT 16-1 and GESTRA boiler control

The LRGT 16-1 is a conductivity transmitter screwed into the boiler shell or blowdown line. It measures the electrical conductivity of the boiler water, which indicates the dissolved solids content, and sends a 4-20 mA signal to a conductivity controller that operates a continuous blowdown valve. The manufacturer also names condensate and feedwater monitoring as uses. The transmitter belongs with the GESTRA level electrodes, limiters and controllers fitted to steam boilers in the GCC, which is why searches for GESTRA boiler control and GESTRA boiler spare parts often end at this type of component.

Ordering GESTRA parts: what we need

Send the type designation and the data from the name plate: pressure rating, connection thread, measuring length, supply voltage and serial number. Tell us which controller and blowdown valve the transmitter works with, and the boiler pressure.
