GESTRA NRR 2-60 Level Controller, CAN Bus, 24 V DC

Description

A CAN bus level controller for steam boilers, hot-water plants and feedwater tanks

The GESTRA NRR 2-60 is a level controller that works with NRG 26-60 or NRG 26-61 capacitance level electrodes as a level control system and limit switch in steam boilers, hot water installations, and condensate and feedwater tanks. It is a three-position stepping controller: it cyclically reads data telegrams from the level electrode over a CAN bus (ISO 11898, CANopen protocol), compares the actual value with the setpoint, forms a corrective signal for the feedwater valve, and switches MIN and MAX alarm contacts when defined switchpoints are reached.

The controller can also be used with a URW 60 universal converter, which turns the 4-20 mA signal of an external level electrode into CAN bus signals. Configuration, operation and diagnostics run through the URB 60 visual display and operating unit.

Three-component control adds feedwater and steam flow inputs to the level signal, which helps on boilers with fast load swings. If two or more devices share a CAN bus, a 120 ohm terminating resistor must be fitted at the first and last devices; the NRR 2-60 has an internal terminating resistor that is activated with a jumper.

Selecting and wiring the controller

Match the controller to the electrode: NRG 26-60 or NRG 26-61 on the CAN bus, or an external 4-20 mA level electrode through the URW 60 converter. Order the URB 60 if you want a visual display and operating unit for configuration and diagnostics. Run bus lines in shielded twisted-pair cable such as UNITRONIC BUS CAN, connect shields along the whole line to the central earthing point, and protect the switching contacts with a T2.5A fuse. Inductive loads need an RC suppressor.

For the electrode side of a boiler level system see the GESTRA NRGT 26-2 capacitive level transmitter and other items under level instrumentation.

About brand

Steam and condensate equipment has been GESTRA's field since 1902, when the company started in Bremen, Germany. Its steam traps, non-return valves and boiler control electronics are found in boiler houses worldwide. Seven Star LLC lists the GESTRA LRGT 16-1 conductivity transmitter, the NRGT 26-2 level transmitter and UNA series ball float steam traps, and supplies GESTRA boiler control parts, valves and steam trap spares to plants in Oman as an independent supplier.

GESTRA LRGT 16-1 and GESTRA boiler control

The LRGT 16-1 is a conductivity transmitter screwed into the boiler shell or blowdown line. It measures the electrical conductivity of the boiler water, which indicates the dissolved solids content, and sends a 4-20 mA signal to a conductivity controller that operates a continuous blowdown valve. The manufacturer also names condensate and feedwater monitoring as uses. The transmitter belongs with the GESTRA level electrodes, limiters and controllers fitted to steam boilers in the GCC, which is why searches for GESTRA boiler control and GESTRA boiler spare parts often end at this type of component.

Ordering GESTRA parts: what we need

Send the type designation and the data from the name plate: pressure rating, connection thread, measuring length, supply voltage and serial number. Tell us which controller and blowdown valve the transmitter works with, and the boiler pressure.
