EUCHNER CTM-LBI-BP-U-AZ-SA BiState Guard Locking Switch

Description

Compact bistable guard locking for small doors and flaps

The EUCHNER CTM-LBI-BP-U-AZ-SA (order no. 166089) is a compact transponder-coded safety switch with guard locking. Its slim housing suits small guards, service flaps and doors where there is little space for a larger locking device. It works with a ball-type actuator, and EUCHNER lists actuators for hinged doors with radii from 150 mm.

The key feature of this version is BiState, or bistable, guard locking. The locking state is kept when the power fails: an open door cannot lock itself, so a person cannot be locked in by accident, and an active lock is not released by a power failure. This sets the CTM apart from classic power-to-lock or power-to-unlock devices, where the behaviour on power loss is fixed by the operating principle.

Signals and control of the lock

Unlike solenoid-type devices, the CTM is supplied with one 24 V DC voltage for both the electronics and the locking mechanism. The lock is switched by the IMP control input: a high level opens the guard locking, a low level closes it. Besides the two safety outputs, the switch provides three monitoring outputs, so the PLC can distinguish between door closed, guard locked and a diagnostic fault. Via OD/C, the switch can also communicate with an EUCHNER IO-Link gateway. An auxiliary release on the front allows the door to be opened during a malfunction.

Selection and mounting notes

The actuator is not included. EUCHNER lists the rigid ball actuator A-B-A1-A1-161642 and the floating-bearing version A-B-A5-A1-168489 for door radii from 150 mm; both come with two M4x14 safety screws. For cables, pre-assembled M12 8-pin leads are offered with sockets at one or both ends. The locking force of 1000 N (FZh) suits light guards; for heavy doors that may be pulled or kicked, the CTP or a multifunctional system such as the MGB2 offers higher forces. The outputs need a free-wheeling diode when switching inductive loads.

About brand
EUCHNER manufactures industrial safety components and systems for machine access and guard monitoring. Its product range includes electromechanical safety switches, transponder-coded devices, guard-locking systems and electronic key systems. These components support applications in automated manufacturing, assembly, material handling and other machine environments. EUCHNER selections depend on the actuator, locking principle, contact arrangement, interface and installation requirements. A switch or actuator is one part of a safety function; the complete system must be designed and validated for its intended application. For enquiries through Seven Star LLC in Oman and the GCC, provide the full order number, installed device details and required mating components.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does BiState mean on the CTM?
The guard locking is bistable: its state is kept when power fails, so an open door cannot lock and an active lock is not released by a power loss.
How is the lock switched?
Through the IMP control input. 20.4 to 26.4 V DC releases the guard locking, 0 to 5 V DC activates it.
What locking force does the CTM-LBI-BP-U-AZ-SA have?
EUCHNER specifies Fmax 1300 N and FZh 1000 N.
Is an actuator included?
No. Order a ball actuator such as A-B-A1-A1-161642 or A-B-A5-A1-168489 separately.
Which safety ratings apply?
Guard lock monitoring reaches PL e, category 4; control of guard locking reaches PL d, category 3, per EN ISO 13849-1.
