EUCHNER ESM-TE301 Time-Delayed Safety Contact Expansion
Description
Delayed safe switch-off for stop category 1 applications
The EUCHNER ESM-TE301 (order no. 085617) is a time-delayed safety contact expansion for the EUCHNER ESM safety relay system. Wired to an ESM basic module, it adds three redundant, positively driven safety contacts that open only after an adjustable delay of 1 to 30 seconds. This allows a machine to brake a drive under power or return a tool to a safe position before energy is removed, which is the usual approach for a stop category 1 to EN IEC 60204-1.
ESM-TE3 units and non-delayed ESM-ES3 contact expansions can be combined freely with a few wires, so one emergency stop or guard circuit can drive both instant and delayed outputs with different times.

How it is wired to the basic module
The ESM-TE301 supplies 24 V DC at terminal S11. This control voltage is routed through one safety contact of the basic module to terminals S15 and S16. When the basic module switches on, the delayed contacts close immediately; when it drops out, the ESM-TE301 holds its contacts for the set time and then opens them. The NC auxiliary contact is placed in the feedback loop of the basic module so that a welded contact prevents restart. Control lines may be up to 1000 m long at 0.75 mm2, and terminals take 0.14 to 2.5 mm2.
Setup and periodic checks
Set the delay on the front rotary knob and then measure it, as the operating instructions require; the specified PL d also depends on staying within the switching-cycle limits for the chosen load current. The 24 V supply must come from a safety transformer to EN IEC 61558-2-6 or an equivalent isolated supply, inductive loads need a suppressor, and the function, wiring and delay must be checked once a month for tampering or bypassing.
Documents and quotation
The attached EUCHNER operating instructions (09/2025) describe connection examples, setup and fault finding. For a quotation, give the order number 085617 and the basic module it will be paired with. More safety components are listed under Safety Switches and Guard Locking.
How the EUCHNER ESM-TE301 works
The EUCHNER ESM-TE301 is a safety relay module that monitors safety devices such as emergency stop buttons and guard switches and switches safe outputs to stop the machine when a safety function is triggered. Redundant, monitored relay contacts make sure that a single fault does not lead to loss of the safety function.
Key points of the EUCHNER ESM-TE301
- Forcibly guided relay contacts with AgNi contact material.
- c_UL_us listed (file E155795) and CCC approval listed by the manufacturer.
- Weight approximately 0.205 kg.
- Achievable performance level depends on the number of switching cycles, as given in the manufacturer data.
Selection & Ordering Guide
Choosing the right EUCHNER ESM-TE301 configuration
Check the supply voltage, the number and type of safety inputs, the number of safe outputs needed and the start function. Confirm that the achievable performance level at your expected switching cycles meets the requirement of your risk assessment.
Our team can help confirm the correct ordering code and accessories against the manufacturer documentation before you place an order, so the delivered item matches your application.
Installation & Maintenance
Mount the module on a DIN rail inside a protected enclosure, wire it according to the operating instructions, and protect the output contacts with the fuses specified by the manufacturer. Test the safety function at commissioning and regularly afterwards.
Always follow the manufacturer instructions supplied with the product, use qualified personnel for installation and electrical work, and keep records of inspections and replacements so that maintenance can be planned rather than reactive.
Typical Applications in Oman & the GCC
In Oman and the GCC, the ESM-TE301 suits emergency stop and guard monitoring circuits on conveyors, packaging machines, pumps and compressors, and process skids in manufacturing, oil and gas, water and utilities.
Practical Notes for Control Panel Builders
A safety relay module must be selected and wired as part of a validated safety function. Determine the required performance level from the risk assessment, then check the module, the input devices and the actuators together, including diagnostic coverage and expected switching frequency. Separate safety wiring from power cables where possible, label terminals clearly, and document the circuit in the electrical drawings. Use contactors with mirror contacts for feedback monitoring where the circuit requires it, and protect the output contacts with the specified fuses to prevent welding of contacts under overload. At commissioning, test every input, the reset function and the response to cross faults where applicable, and record the results.
Keeping a spare module of the same order number in the plant store allows a quick like-for-like replacement, which shortens downtime and avoids unauthorised changes to safety circuits during breakdowns. Always repeat the functional test after any replacement before the machine is returned to production.

About brand
EUCHNER is a German manufacturer of safety switches, guard locking systems and safety controls for machine safety, founded in 1940 and headquartered in Leinfelden-Echterdingen near Stuttgart. The family-owned company is best known for its guard locking and transponder-coded safety switches.
Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list EUCHNER safety components for machine builders and maintenance teams in Oman and the GCC.
EUCHNER product series
Guard locking switches include the transponder-coded CTP, CTA and CTS series, the CTM with BiState guard locking, the STP twin switch and the electromechanical TX1B and TZ series. The MGB2 Multifunctional Gate Box combines guard locking, handle and control elements on one door. Non-contact switches include the CES-IA set and the CES-AP RFID safety switch, and the CTP-I version provides monitoring without guard locking.
Control devices include the ZSM and ZSB three-position enabling switches, the RPS emergency stop rope pull switch, the ESM safety relays (including versions with time-delayed contacts and the ESM-TE301 expansion) and the MSC modular safety controller.
Where EUCHNER components are used
Safety guards and doors on machine tools, robot cells, presses, packaging machines and conveyor systems, emergency stop along conveyors and enabling during setup and teaching. A switch or actuator is one part of a safety function; the complete system must be designed and validated for its application.
Ordering EUCHNER components: what we need
Send the full order number or item number from the label, the coding level and actuator required, the supply voltage and the connection type. For replacements, also give the installed device details and the mating components such as actuators and handle modules.
