Brand:

Kaeser DSD Rotary Screw Compressor Series, 75-132 kW

Description

Screw compressors for 75 to 132 kW with DN 65 connection

The Kaeser DSD series fills the step between the CSD(X) and the large ESD range: four sizes, DSD 145, 175, 205 and 240, with drive motors of 75, 90, 110 and 132 kW and a headline flow range of 3.5 to 26.6 m³/min at 5.5 to 15 bar. Each size comes as a fixed-speed unit, a T unit with an integrated refrigeration dryer, an SFC unit with variable speed and a T SFC unit with both. The DSD uses the single-stage SIGMA PROFILE airend and SIGMA CONTROL controller, so the family resemblance to the smaller Kaeser series carries through to control and heat-recovery options.

Choosing between DSD sizes and drive types

At 10 bar the four fixed-speed sizes deliver 13.60, 16.59 and 20.40 m³/min for the DSD 175, 205 and 240 respectively, so steps between sizes are about 3 to 4 m³/min. A single SFC unit can cover that gap, for example the DSD 240 SFC at 5.33 to 20.08 m³/min at 10 bar, making it a natural trim machine beside a fixed-speed base-load unit. The T versions lengthen the package by 300 mm and add about 270 kg, and remove the need for a separate dryer when a +3 °C dew point is enough.

Position in the Kaeser fluid-cooled range

The DSDX series extends the same footprint concept to a flow of up to 34.25 m3/min, and the ESD takes over for 200 kW and above. Headline brochure ranges are shown below.

Kaeser series Flow rate, m3/min Pressure, bar
CSD(X) 1.1 to 19.4 5.5 to 15
DSD 3.5 to 26.6 5.5 to 15
DSDX up to 34.25 up to 15
ESD up to 47.2 up to 15

Selection checks for a DSD installation

A compressor of this size is a long-term decision, so base it on measured demand where possible rather than on the rating of the machine being replaced. A logging period on the existing system shows the minimum, average and peak air demand and how often the plant runs at part load; that pattern decides whether a fixed-speed DSD, an SFC unit or a combination of both is the better fit. Check the pressure actually needed at the point of use, then add the pressure losses of the dryer, filtration and pipework instead of simply picking the highest pressure available. Confirm the electrical supply and starting arrangement with the site electrical engineer, decide whether an integrated dryer or a separate treatment line suits the air-quality requirement, and consider whether recovered heat can be used on site, because that question affects the room layout and piping.

Compressor room layout and installation

The DSD packages are large and heavy, so check the access route, lifting method and floor loading before delivery is planned. Leave the service clearances around the package that Kaeser specifies in the installation documentation, and give the cooling air a clear path in and out of the room so that warm discharge air is not drawn back into the intake. Ducting for the warm exhaust air should be designed with the pressure drop the package can tolerate in mind. Connect the compressed air outlet with a flexible arrangement or supports that keep pipe loads off the package, provide a correctly sized condensate drain route to an approved treatment point, and follow local rules for oil-contaminated condensate.

Commissioning and handover

Commissioning should be carried out by trained personnel following Kaeser’s start-up procedure. Check rotation, supply voltage and protection settings, then set the pressure band in SIGMA CONTROL to match the plant requirement and, where several compressors share the network, coordinate their control so that the machines do not work against each other. Record operating pressure, temperatures and running data at handover as a reference for later comparison.

Maintenance planning

Follow the service intervals and parts list in the Kaeser operating manual, and adjust inspection frequency to the site conditions rather than relying on running hours alone. Compare running data against the handover record so that changes in temperature or power draw are spotted early.

Operating in Oman and GCC conditions

High ambient temperature is the main challenge for air-cooled screw compressors in the Gulf. Check the maximum ambient temperature on site against the limits in the Kaeser documentation for the chosen variant, and design the room ventilation for summer peaks rather than average conditions. Dust in the intake air loads intake filtration and cooler surfaces, so locate air inlets away from roads and loading areas, keep the room clean, and inspect coolers more often during dusty months. In humid coastal sites, condensate volumes can be high, which makes reliable drainage and suitable air treatment downstream especially important.

What to confirm before ordering

Provide the working pressure, supply voltage and frequency, ambient temperature, any water cooling or heat recovery need, whether the integrated dryer is wanted and the communication interface. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, quotes the exact DSD variant. The brochure is attached and other machines are under Compressors.

About brand

Kaeser Kompressoren is a German manufacturer of compressors, blowers and compressed air systems. Carl Kaeser Sr. established the company as a machine workshop in Coburg, Germany, on 27 June 1919, and the first reciprocating compressor followed in 1948. Today the family-owned company covers rotary screw and reciprocating compressors, blowers, vacuum packages, air treatment and portable compressors.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list Kaeser compressors, blowers and air treatment equipment for industrial buyers in Oman and the GCC.

Kaeser product series

Rotary screw compressors on this site include the ASD, BSD, CSD(X), DSD, ESD and FSD series from 18.5 kW up to 315 kW, using the SIGMA PROFILE airend and SIGMA CONTROL 2 controller, plus the CSG-2, DSG-2 and FSG-2 oil-free screw compressors. ASV, BSV and CSV rotary screw vacuum packages and CBS and HBS rotary screw blowers complete the machinery side.

Air treatment covers SECOTEC TA and TC refrigeration dryers, DC and i.DC heatless desiccant dryers, KF compressed air filters and ACT activated carbon adsorbers for oil-vapour removal.

Where Kaeser equipment is used

Factory and instrument air in manufacturing and process plants, oil-free air for food, pharmaceutical and electronics production, aeration and process air in wastewater treatment, and vacuum for packaging and conveying.

Ordering Kaeser equipment: what we need

Send the free air delivery, working pressure, ambient temperature and the required air quality class, together with the supply voltage and frequency. For replacements give the model and serial number from the nameplate, so the right Kaeser model and options can be confirmed before an offer is issued.
