How the PLC-RSC-12DC/21 works
The PLC-RSC-12DC/21 is a PLC-INTERFACE module: a narrow basic terminal block with screw terminals on which a miniature plug-in relay is fitted. The block carries the coil input with its protective circuit and a yellow LED that shows when the coil is energised, and routes the contact(s) to separate screw terminals. Because the relay is plugged in, it can be replaced without rewiring. The coil side and the contact side are electrically isolated, with the test voltage in the table, which lets a low-voltage controller output switch a load on a different voltage level.
The contact data matches the other single-contact modules: a changeover contact with AgSnO material, 6 A limiting continuous current and 250 V AC/DC maximum switching voltage. The difference is the lower coil voltage, which suits 12 V controllers.
Where the PLC-RSC-12DC/21 fits in a system
Modules like this are placed between a PLC output card (or a field sensor) and a load that the controller cannot drive directly: solenoids, contactors, signal lamps, small motors. They also give isolation and a replaceable wear element, so a failed contact does not mean rewiring a whole output card. In the PLC-RSC range, the choice of coil voltage, number of changeover contacts and contact material is what separates the variants.
Use the PLC-RSC-12DC/21 where the control signal comes from a 12 V system, such as vehicle-style electronics, battery-backed security panels or embedded controllers. In 24 V PLC panels the 24 V modules are the standard choice.
Selection and ordering checklist
- Confirm the coil voltage of the PLC-RSC-12DC/21 against the controller output: DC or AC, and the tolerance range in the table.
- Check that the PLC output can supply the typical input current.
- Confirm the load voltage and current are within the switching data, including inrush.
- Check the contact material (standard or gold-plated) against the load level, because small signals need gold.
- Check the number of changeover contacts needed.
- Consider the divider plate and bridging accessories for neighbouring modules at higher voltages.
- Confirm the 12 V source can supply the coil current of all modules on the rail.
Installation, commissioning and maintenance of the PLC-RSC-12DC/21
Clip the PLC-RSC-12DC/21 on a 35 mm DIN rail, wire the coil and contact terminals with screwdriver torque of 0.6 to 0.8 Nm and insert the relay. Check polarity on DC coils. At commissioning, switch each channel and confirm with the LED that the coil is energised, then measure the contact state.
Check the datasheet for the typical input current and the response times before wiring many modules onto a small 12 V source.
Typical applications in Oman and the GCC
In Oman and the GCC, relay interface modules are used in pump, valve and compressor control panels, in lighting control and in building management systems. The temperature range in the table covers most indoor cabinets, but outdoor panels with strong solar load should be checked against the upper limit.
12 V systems appear in telecoms, solar-powered monitoring stations and security panels across the GCC.

About brand
Phoenix Contact is a German, family-owned manufacturer of electrical connection technology and industrial automation, founded in 1923 in Essen by Hugo Knümann. It began as a sales company, and in 1928 Knümann developed the modular terminal block mounted on a rail, the product the company is still best known for. Phoenix Contact is headquartered in Blomberg, North Rhine-Westphalia.
Seven Star LLC lists Phoenix Contact surge protection, power supplies and safety relays, and sources these components by order number for panel builders and maintenance teams in Oman.

Ordering Phoenix Contact components: what we need
Phoenix Contact items are ordered by a seven-digit order number together with the type designation, both printed on the side of the module. Send both, plus the quantity. If the number is unreadable, send the type text and a photo. For power supplies, state input voltage, output current and whether the unit runs in parallel or with a redundancy module. For buyers in the GCC replacing an older unit, we check the manufacturer's documentation for the listed successor type.
