Bently Nevada 330100-50-05 3300 Proximitor Prox, 5 m, Approvals

Description

330100-50-05: 3300 Proximitor Sensor, 5.0 m system, multiple approvals

The Bently Nevada 330100-50-05 is a 3300 Proximitor Sensor in a 5.0 m (16.4 ft) system length with the multiple approvals option. It is the version to quote when the site documents require the hazardous-area approvals that the manufacturer lists for the 3300 system, rather than the plain 330100-50-00.

Decoded from 330100-AXX-BXX, 50 is 5.0 m system length and 05 is the multiple approvals option.

Signal path of the 330100-50-05

The sensor sends a radio-frequency drive to the coil in the probe tip and measures how a conducting target loads that coil. Its output is a negative dc voltage proportional to gap, 7.87 mV/µm (200 mV/mil), which carries both position (the dc level) and vibration (the ac component). The 330100 includes an integral isolation plate as its base, so no separate isolator plate is needed in the mounting.

330100-50-05 and the approvals listed for the 3300 system

The 3300 specification sheet lists CSA/NRTL/C approval for Exia Class I, Division 1, Groups A to D when installed with intrinsically safe zener barriers per drawing CA22000 or with galvanic isolators, and Class I, Division 2 without barriers, with T4A at Ta = 100 °C and T5 at Ta = 65 °C. It also lists BASEEFA/CENELEC EExia for Zones 0, 1 and 2 with barriers or isolators, and ExN for Zone 2.

The document is an older specification, so check the markings and certificate on the delivered unit and the project’s current approval requirement. Probes and extension cables in the chain should be ordered with the matching 05 option so that the entire system is consistent.

Related parts and family overview for 330100-50-05

The ordering table for the 3300 Proximitor Sensor has only two length codes, 50 and 90, and two agency codes, 00 and 05. Matching parts are the 3300 XL 8 mm probes (330101 to 330106 families), 3300 5 mm probes (330171, 330172) and the 3300 XL extension cable 330130. The XL Proximitor Sensor, 330180, is described as electrically and mechanically interchangeable with this non-XL sensor and recommended as best available technology, but mixing XL and non-XL parts limits performance to the non-XL specification.

Part number System length Agency option
330100-50-00 5.0 m (16.4 ft) Not required
330100-50-05 5.0 m (16.4 ft) Multiple approvals
330100-90-00 / 330100-90-05 9.0 m (29.5 ft) Not required / multiple approvals

Selection and ordering checklist for 330100-50-05

  • State the approval requirement: CSA/NRTL/C, BASEEFA/CENELEC or other
  • Confirm the barrier or isolator arrangement and drawing
  • Order probe and extension with option 05 where available
  • Confirm 5.0 m total length
  • Confirm whether the XL sensor 330180-50-05 equivalent is acceptable on the project
  • Request marking or certificate copies for the loop file

Installation, commissioning and maintenance of the 330100-50-05

Install to the manufacturer drawing for intrinsically safe or Division 2 circuits and observe the supply limits of -17.5 to -26 Vdc at 12 mA. Barriers reduce available supply voltage, so measure at the sensor terminals.

Document barrier type and loop parameters. After installation verify the gap voltage and dynamic signal and keep the record as a baseline.

  • Do not mix approved and non-approved probes in one loop without engineering review
  • Inspect barrier grounds regularly
  • Store spares with the same option 05
  • Tight connections prevent signal noise
  • Protect connectors in damp plants

Typical applications in Oman and the GCC

The 330100-50-05 belongs to classified-area machinery in Oman and the GCC, such as gas compressors and turbines in oil and gas gathering, refinery and petrochemical units where proximity signals pass through barriers. It is also used as an approved-sensor spare for older 3300-based protection racks whose approvals documentation names the 05 build.

Performance data from the 3300 system specification

Bently Nevada specification 141605-01 gives the following typical figures for a 3300 system built around the 330100 Proximitor Sensor with a 3300 XL 8 mm or 3300 5 mm probe: a linear range of 2 mm (80 mils) that begins about 0.25 mm (10 mils) from the target, a recommended gap setting of 1.27 mm (50 mils), an incremental scale factor of 7.87 mV/µm (200 mV/mil) ±6.5%, and a frequency response of 0 to 6.5 kHz (+0, −3 dB) with up to 305 m of field wiring. Proximitor sensors leave the factory calibrated to AISI 4140 steel; calibration to other target materials is available on request. The recommended minimum shaft diameter is 76.2 mm (3 in), because smaller shafts generally change the scale factor. When XL and non-XL parts are mixed, system performance is limited to the non-XL 3300 specification.

A proximity probe measures the gap to the shaft, so it sees shaft movement inside a fluid-film bearing directly. A velocity or acceleration sensor sits on the casing and suits rolling-element bearing machines. Critical turbomachinery usually carries two X-Y probes per bearing, two axial probes for thrust position and a Keyphasor probe for speed and phase.

Where Bently Nevada systems are used

In Oman and the GCC, Bently Nevada racks and probes protect gas turbines, compressors and steam turbines in gas processing, LNG, refining, petrochemical, power and desalination plants. Many installations are 3500 racks that have run for years, so most requests are for like-for-like module, probe, extension cable and proximitor replacements, plus upgrades to newer monitors.

Ordering and replacement: what we need

For probes and proximitors, send the full part number with all option digits (for example 330101-00-27-10-02-05). The digits set the probe length, cable length, connector and approvals, and the probe, cable and proximitor must match in total system length. For 3500 modules, send the module and I/O part numbers from the rack and say whether the I/O is internal or external termination, or barrier type. If a module is obsolete, we quote the replacement that Bently Nevada names and point out any configuration or firmware change.

Answers from our engineering team on installation, compatibility and integration.

01What does 330100-50-05 mean?
It follows the 330100-AXX-BXX pattern. A = 50 means 5.0 m system length; B = 05 means multiple approvals.
02What approvals does the 3300 specification list?
It lists CSA/NRTL/C (Exia Class I Division 1 with barriers or isolators, Division 2 without) and BASEEFA/CENELEC (EExia Zones 0, 1, 2 with barriers; ExN Zone 2).
03How does 330100-50-05 differ from 330100-50-00?
Only the agency approval option differs. 50-05 is the multiple approvals build; 50-00 has no approval option.
04What range does it provide?
A 2 mm (80 mil) linear range from 0.25 to 2.3 mm with a recommended gap of 1.27 mm and a scale factor of 7.87 mV/µm.
05Can an XL sensor replace it?
The XL Proximitor Sensor is described as electrically and mechanically interchangeable, but mixed XL and non-XL parts operate to non-XL specifications and the approval basis should be checked.
