Description

Bently Nevada 3500/25-01-02-01 Enhanced Keyphasor module code decoded

The Bently Nevada 3500/25-01-02-01 is a complete order code for a 3500/25 Enhanced Keyphasor Module, built from the manufacturer ordering table 3500/25-AA-BB-CC. Reading each field: A = 01 a single half-height two-channel Keyphasor card; B = 02 an I/O module with external terminations; C = 01 cNRTLus Class 1 Division 2 agency approval.

That means two Keyphasor channels, with field wiring brought to an external termination block rather than to the rack rear. Seven Star LLC supplies this configuration in Oman and the GCC for new rack builds or for like-for-like replacement of an existing code.

What a Keyphasor signal does for the rack

A Keyphasor mark on the shaft produces one pulse per revolution, or several per revolution on a gear or speed wheel. The module conditions that pulse with an automatic or manual threshold, then distributes the clean digital signal to every monitor in the rack. Monitors use it to calculate speed and to compute 1X amplitude and phase. Without a valid Keyphasor the tracking filters fall back to their nominal settings, and vector values become unreliable.

The Enhanced module adds once-per-turn event generation from multi-event inputs, field-upgradeable firmware and asset-management reporting while keeping form, fit and function with older Keyphasor modules.

Decoding 3500/25-01-02-01 field by field

The code works as a build list: the main module is the Enhanced Keyphasor (149369-01 as spare), the rear module is the external-termination I/O (126648-01), and the approval code adds the cNRTLus marking. Choosing option 02 for field B means the external termination block (128718-01 for Euro connectors or 128726-01 for terminal strips) and a 129530-AAAA-BB cable, in lengths from 5 ft to 100 ft, are ordered as separate lines.

Field Meaning
A = 01 One half-height card, two channels
B = 02 I/O module with external terminations
C = 01 cNRTLus (Class 1, Division 2)

Selection and ordering checklist for 3500/25-01-02-01

  • Confirm that two Keyphasor channels are enough; four need ordering option 02 for field A.
  • Order the external termination block, the signal cable and its length with this code.
  • Check that a Class 1 Division 2 approval is the correct one for the site, otherwise ATEX/IECEx/CSA (code 02) applies.
  • Verify whether isolated I/O (options 04 and 05) is better for magnetic pickups tied in parallel.
  • Confirm compatibility with the other half-height slot in the rack.

Installation, commissioning and maintenance

Install the half-height main module in a front slot (half-height modules need a mounting adapter in full-height slots; each rack may have only two main modules in the top and bottom half slots). Set the threshold mode to match the sensor: auto-threshold for clean Proximitor pulses, manual threshold for low-amplitude or noisy signals. Check the pulse count against the machine speed on the monitor display and confirm that front-panel OK and TX/RX LEDs are steady.

For magnetic pickups, remember that passive types need shaft speed above 200 rpm (3.3 Hz). Keep Keyphasor cabling separate from power cables and ensure shield grounding follows the plant standard.

Typical applications in Oman and the GCC

Keyphasor modules are present on every 3500 rack that measures speed or vector vibration on compressors, turbines, motors and pumps. In the GCC the sensors on the shaft are exposed to heat, oil mist and dust, so a clean signal and a firm probe mounting matter more than the module itself. The external-termination form is popular where the rack sits in a satellite shelter and field cables end in a central marshalling cabinet.

Ordering 3500/25-01-02-01 as a complete assembly

The code 3500/25-01-02-01 describes the main module and its rear I/O as one order. Quote it together with the external termination block 128718-01 (Euro connectors) or 128726-01 (terminal strip) and one 129530-AAAA-BB cable for each I/O module, because the 3500/25 datasheet states that blocks and cables for external-termination modules must be ordered separately. Specify cable length: 5, 7, 10, 25, 50 or 100 feet, and choose assembled (02) or not assembled (01) as the cable assembly instruction.

If your rack already has the main module and only the rear I/O is missing, quote the I/O part number instead of the full code to avoid duplicate hardware.

A proximity probe measures the gap to the shaft, so it sees shaft movement inside a fluid-film bearing directly. A velocity or acceleration sensor sits on the casing and suits rolling-element bearing machines. Critical turbomachinery usually carries two X-Y probes per bearing, two axial probes for thrust position and a Keyphasor probe for speed and phase.

Where Bently Nevada systems are used

In Oman and the GCC, Bently Nevada racks and probes protect gas turbines, compressors and steam turbines in gas processing, LNG, refining, petrochemical, power and desalination plants. Many installations are 3500 racks that have run for years, so most requests are for like-for-like module, probe, extension cable and proximitor replacements, plus upgrades to newer monitors.

Ordering and replacement: what we need

For probes and proximitors, send the full part number with all option digits (for example 330101-00-27-10-02-05). The digits set the probe length, cable length, connector and approvals, and the probe, cable and proximitor must match in total system length. For 3500 modules, send the module and I/O part numbers from the rack and say whether the I/O is internal or external termination, or barrier type. If a module is obsolete, we quote the replacement that Bently Nevada names and point out any configuration or firmware change.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the 3500/25-01-02-01?
It is a complete 3500/25 ordering code for one half-height two-channel Enhanced Keyphasor module with external-termination I/O and cNRTLus Class 1 Division 2 approval.
How many Keyphasor channels per module?
Each half-height module has two channels. The 3500 can take up to four Keyphasor signals normally and up to eight in a paired arrangement.
What sensors can supply the signal?
Proximity probe transducers or magnetic pickups. Passive magnetic pickups need a shaft speed above 200 rpm.
What speed range can be measured?
The datasheet gives 1 to 1,200,000 cpm (0.017 Hz to 20 kHz) input range with an output range of 1 to 99,999 cpm.
Do I need external termination blocks?
Only with external-termination I/O modules. They cannot be used with internal-termination modules, and the blocks and cables are ordered separately.
