Palmer Wahl C150 Documenting Multifunction Calibrator

Description

A documenting multifunction calibrator for temperature, process and pressure

The Palmer Wahl C150 is the top instrument of the C series of calibrators. The datasheet describes it as an advanced documenting multifunction calibrator that works as a simulator (in and out) and as a dual channel thermometer (in and in) for comparison calibration. It measures and generates temperature, resistance, process, pressure and frequency signals over two isolated channels, calibrates thermistors, and has a HART communicator integrated into the ACL500 modem for HART transmitter calibration.

The C150 stores audit trails and the datasheet states that it complies with both 21 CFR Part 11 and the NADCAP Heat Treatment standard AMS 2750. Those statements are quoted from the datasheet as printed. Ten calibration procedures can be stored on the instrument, results are saved on site and uploaded later with DATACAL software to issue calibration certificates.

C series comparison and selection

  • The datasheet compares C50, C75, C100 and C150; the C150 is the only member with the 100 mA range, the 50 kohm range and the 100 kHz frequency range printed in its column.
  • Choose it when you need documenting calibration with audit trails, HART transmitter calibration and dual channel comparison, and a smaller C-series model if you only need simulation.
  • Order the ACL433 module separately for pressure work, and the ACL600 cable if you drive baths or dry-blocks; call for the full accessory list.
  • Use the DATACAL software to configure the unit and to manage and export results.

Applications in Oman and the GCC

Instrument technicians in refineries, power stations and heat treatment shops use one portable calibrator to check RTD and thermocouple transmitters, 4-20 mA loops, pressure transmitters and process indicators. The AMS 2750 statement matters for aerospace heat treatment work, so check the requirement with your auditor before relying on it.

Selection and installation notes

A multifunction calibrator is selected from the signals and sensors you need to measure and simulate. Check the ranges and sockets, the pressure modules, the leads and the battery before use, let the instrument warm up, and enter the device settings correctly before documenting a result. Keep the calibration certificate on file and plan the re-calibration interval according to your quality system.
