Speakman Select SE-603 Emergency Shower and Eye/Face Wash

Description

The Speakman Select Series SE-603 is a floor-mounted combination emergency station that puts a deluge shower and an eye/face wash on one galvanized steel stanchion. The shower has an 8 in ABS plastic head operated by a high-visibility yellow pull rod, and the SE-400 eye/face wash with a stainless steel rectangular bowl, six aerated sprays and a push handle sits at the side. Both operate independently, so a person can start the shower with one hand and keep the eyes flushed with the other.

The stanchion is DuraJade powder-coated galvanized steel, with a 1-1/4 in NPT connection. Speakman lists the unit as ANSI/ISEA Z358.1 certified, and the page spec block gives a flow of 9.55 gpm at 30 psi for the eye/face wash and 20 gpm for the shower, with a product weight of 44 lb.

Selection and ordering guide

The Select Series sheet lists a family of related stations that differ in the eye/face wash and bowl: SE-616 uses the SE-505 eyewash with stainless bowl, SE-690 an SE-490 soft-flow eye/face wash with stainless bowl, SE-693 an SE-582 eyewash, SE-695 an SE-495 soft-flow unit with plastic bowl, and SE-697 an SE-580 eyewash with plastic bowl. SE-603 is the version with the aerated SE-400 eye/face wash and the stainless bowl. If you want the all-stainless construction, the SE-626-SS on this site is the corresponding item. The sheet also notes that the bowl and eyewash look can vary by model.

Installation and operation notes

Mount the floor flange on a flat, level surface with suitable anchors, with one of the three flange ears at the front. The sheet then builds the stanchion from 1-1/4 in galvanized pipe, a drain and supply cross, a tee, a 1 in ball valve with a lever handle assembly, the 8 in showerhead on an elbow, and the bowl on a mounting spud. A back or top supply is selected by plugging the unused outlet on the tee. Connect an uninterruptible potable supply of at least 30 psi flowing pressure and connect the drain outlet to a drain that complies with local plumbing codes. Activate the shower by pulling the rod and the eye/face wash by pushing the paddle handle forward 90 degrees; both stay on until manually reset. Weekly activation with the supplied record tag is required.

Applications in GCC industry

A fixed combination station is the standard answer where chemicals are poured, mixed or transferred: dosing skids at water plants, caustic and acid storage, battery charging areas, laboratory entries and plating shops. The galvanized steel stanchion with powder coat is the alternative to the all-stainless SE-626-SS, and the bowl is stainless steel. Locate stations within the travel time required by the plant safety standard and ensure drainage and lighting.

Installation and selection notes

A combination station needs both a water supply and a drain solution. Confirm the pipe size for the 1-1/4 in connection, the pressure and flow available and the position of the station on a firm, level floor. Test both the shower and the eyewash regularly, as required by the standard, and keep the area around them clear.
