Brand: SMC
SMC AMD350-03 Micro Mist Separator Rc 3/8, 0.01 um
Description
A fine oil-mist separator for clean air
AMD350-03 is a micro mist separator from the SMC AMD series. It separates and removes oil mist in the form of an aerosol from compressed air, and it also removes carbon and dust larger than 0.01 um. The catalogue recommends it as a prefilter for precision instruments or a clean room, where cleaner air than a normal filter can give is required.
The code reads AMD (series), 350 (the 3/8 Standard body size), no thread letter (so the Rc thread) and 03 (a 3/8 port). Options such as a bracket (B), auto-drain (C or D), drain guide (J), reversed IN-OUT (R) and element service indicator (T) are not included.

Position in the compressed air line
The catalogue describes the AMD as a prefilter for finer stages, and it is normally fitted downstream of a main line filter and upstream of the air dryer or of a sub-micron filter. A mist separator removes oil droplets that a normal filter passes, so the oil does not reach the sensitive devices or contaminate the product where air touches it, as in painting, food or electronics assembly.
It is not a final filter for oil vapour. For this purpose the catalogue has other, finer stages, so confirm the air quality class needed before selecting.
Sizing and maintenance
The rated flow of 1000 L/min is a maximum at 0.7 MPa and varies with the operating pressure. The catalogue gives a maximum air flow graph and flow characteristics curves; use them with the inlet pressure of your line. The element is replaced every two years or when the pressure drop reaches 0.1 MPa, and an element service indicator is offered as an option.
Drain the bowl regularly or fit an auto-drain, and mount the unit vertically, as the precautions describe. Leave room below the bowl for servicing.
A mist separator also adds a small pressure drop. Size it for the real peak flow of the branch it serves, and keep a margin so that the element lasts as long as the catalogue life figure suggests.

AMD350-03 and the Current AMD350C Model
The AMD350-03 is from an earlier generation of the SMC AMD micro mist separator series. In the current catalogue, the same body size is listed as the AMD350C. The current equivalent of the AMD350-03 with an Rc 3/8 port is therefore AMD350C-03. The data published for the AMD350C is given below for reference when you replace or compare an installed unit.
| Item (current AMD350C) | Catalogue data |
|---|---|
| Rated flow | 1000 L/min (ANR), maximum flow capacity at 0.7 MPa |
| Port sizes | 3/8, 1/2 (Rc, G or NPT thread) |
| Weight | 0.9 kg |
| Filtration rating | 0.01 µm (filtration efficiency: 99.9%) |
| Oil mist density at outlet | Max. 0.1 mg/m³ (ANR) at an inlet density of 30 mg/m³ (ANR); less than 0.01 mg/m³ (ANR) before the element is saturated with oil |
| Max. / min. operating pressure | 1.0 MPa / 0.05 MPa (0.1 MPa N.O. or 0.15 MPa N.C. auto drain) |
| Proof pressure | 1.5 MPa |
| Ambient and fluid temperature | 5 to 60°C |
| Element replacement | 2 years or when the pressure drop reaches 0.1 MPa |
| Replacement element | AMD-EL350 (AMD-EL350-F for FKM option); glass fiber element |
| Bracket assembly (current body) | AM-BM103 (with 2 mounting screws) |
Port positions and dimensions can differ between generations, so check the dimension drawings before replacing a unit.
How the AMD350-03 Micro Mist Separator Works
Compressed air passes through a glass fiber element. Aerosol oil mist that is too fine for a standard filter is captured on the fibers, where the droplets coalesce, grow and drain down into the bowl. Particles such as carbon and dust of 0.01 µm and larger are trapped at the same time. The collected liquid is discharged through the drain cock or an auto drain. Because the element would be overloaded by bulk water and coarse dirt, SMC recommends fitting a main line filter (AFF) or a mist separator (AM) upstream. In the SMC air cleaning system, the AMD is used as the prefilter for finer stages such as the AME super mist separator and the AMF odour removal filter.
Selection & Ordering Guide
- Size: select the body by the maximum flow capacity line at your actual inlet pressure. The catalogue explains the procedure and gives the graph.
- Thread: Nil = Rc, F = G, N = NPT. Port 03 = 3/8, 04 = 1/2.
- Accessory: B = bracket, supplied but not assembled.
- Auto drain: C = N.C. (normally closed) or D = N.O. (normally open). Without either, the separator has a drain cock.
- Options: F = FKM seals, H = medium pressure, J = drain guide, R = IN-OUT reversal, S/U = differential pressure switch, T = element service indicator.
- Modular connection: the AMD150C to 550C bodies can be connected modularly with AFF and AM units of the same size.
Our team can help confirm the correct ordering code for a replacement of the AMD350-03 and its element.
Installation & Maintenance
- Install the separator after a main line filter and before the equipment that needs oil-free air.
- Mount it vertically with the bowl down, and follow the IN and OUT arrows.
- Drain the bowl regularly or use an auto drain.
- Watch the pressure drop. Replace the element at 0.1 MPa or after 2 years. Exhaust the pressure before opening the bowl.
Typical Applications in Oman & the GCC

SMC is the Japanese specialist in pneumatic automation: air preparation units, solenoid valves, cylinders, fittings, process valves and sensors. Yoshiyuki Takada founded the company in Tokyo on 27 April 1959 as Shoketsu Kinzoku Kogyo, which means Sintered Metal Corporation, and its first products were sintered metal filters. SMC Corporation is headquartered in Tokyo and listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, and its products are used on machines and instrument air lines across the world.

SMC series listed on this page
The AW is a combined filter and pressure regulator in SMC's modular air preparation line. The body size is in the name: AW20 is the smaller unit and AW40 the larger, and the digits after the dash give the port size. A part number such as AW40-04-A therefore describes body size, port and options in one string. The VX2 is a direct-operated two-port solenoid valve for shutting off air, water, oil or steam, depending on the body and seal materials chosen.

Ordering SMC parts: what we need
Give the complete SMC part number from the label, including thread prefix, options and the final suffix letter. For AW units state gauge, drain type and bracket if you need them. For VX2 valves send coil voltage, port size, orifice, body and seal material, and the fluid. Buyers in the GCC often have NPT or G threads on site, so say which thread standard the piping uses.
